I bought one of these the last time they were this price for my kids. They took no interest but I love playing these smaller scale guitars. My take is:

The bad:
Neck has zero finish on it.- I took mine off sanded it and added 15 coats of Tru-oil to it. It turned out great.

Electronics- they are ok but the soldering was bad. I touched mine up with the soldering iron where it looked like joints would break.

The Good:
Solid electronics- this is all fender low end electronics but the pickups sound great
Fret work- better than expected. Only needed a few touch ups on fret ends

Setup- the nut is plastic but was setup and cut well. I didn't bother changing it yet because it is well done

Overall with a little work this is a good player.

These things are amazing at this price. Just remember to put thicker gauge strings on it than Fender uses. They put 9s on everything. That unacceptable on 22.7" scale guitar. Put at least 11s on here and this is a great little guitar. I have both this and the Strat. Nothing on this guitar needs to be upgraded from the pickups to the tuners. I will put a proper bone nut on both of mine eventually, but there hasn't been a reason to so far. (I cut the existing ones properly for 11 gauges strings and they are holding up just fine.

I already have it in Surf Green or I'd buy a second at this price. If you are okay with the scale length, what are you waiting for? But it!

Just picked up a second hand loog for my kid, he puts on glasses and jumps backwards on the couch with it, pretending to be Marty Mcfly

What does that have to do with this guitar

Angus Young is an adult with small hands. He uses a full size guitar with a thinner neck. I forget what exact guitar he uses but you can Google it. I'm not a professional but enjoy my 3/4 Acoustic guitar and 3/4 acoustic bass. note: The 3/4 basses dont have much bass sound (physics) but it's fun for practice.

Learning the basics in guitar is in fact hard. That would be true on a full size guitar or this one. However, you should definitely get this guitar. The price is great. Being Shorter will help with the basics, but you need the proper strings, and you need the guitar to be set up well.

Proper strings would be thicker than stock, 11s or 12s.

So many great guitarists out there. They make it look easy. It's not. Keep practicing, it will get better. Your finger flexibility and strength will improve. Your coordination will improve. The chord you thought was impossible...will ring clear. Once it does you'll realize all chords will be possible! Once you get over the initial hump, improvement will come at an accelerating pace as skills you learn for one thing will apply to another. You got this!

I too bought this one last time it was on sale and it is genuinely my favorite guitar, even over my several thousand dollar Carvins. My pro guitar-tech-friend did the rounds on it and made it play amazing. A dirt-cheap guitar that plays like a high-end Music-Man guitar. Who could ask for more? So inexpensive that I have no issue just having it around to pick up and play without having to commit to a ritual that is breaking out a guitar case and carefully playing it in hopes of not denting the finish. Not the case here at all. I love the fret size and neck radius.
Greatest guitar ever? Possibly. This is one of those guitars things that everyone should just own as a common denominator, like a toaster or Post-its.

It has been said everywhere that you want/need thicker strings to help it stay in tune and it is true. The shorter scale has increased tension on the strings and thus lighter strings are more susceptible to this tension. I sort of want another one just to put heavier strings and tune it to a baritone. In theory the tension should make it sound like a brighter, almost piano-like ring.

This is really tempting especially with my recent J Mascis JM. There is just something the JM look, feel and sound that is so cool Smilie humbuckers are an interesting choice for this but it sounds like they sound pretty good

https://youtu.be/BgNAQshW10U - is this the same guitar btw? If so thats not a good look

Someone in the comments mentioned using heavier strings which will help keep it in tune better which I presume is why the suggestion was made earlier on in the thread?
