I play EA FC2024 (FIFA 2024) only most of my free time. Anyone played with this Asus handheld console or STEMDECK? Any issues with FC2024? Thanks in advance.

Far Cry 5 and New Dawn would crash the entire Deck after about 30 minutes, like clockwork before the change. Also played much better after the change. Dying Light (via Heroic) also played choppy to unplayable before but now plays fine afterwards.

Otherwise and subjectively I would say the Deck runs better across the board changing from the default VRAM settings to 4GB but have no data to back that up. When I upgraded to the OLED I thought there was something wrong with my new SD because I picked up playing the same games as my old non-OLED, the games seemed to play worse even if the OLED had slightly better performance on paper. Then I remembered to change VRAM and things got super peppy again. Again, this is a subjective observation.

Also some people claim changing to 2GB is a happy medium as well. There are also things like CryoUtilities that are supposed do wonders beyond messing with VRAM but that level of tinkering is past what I feel like doing.
Thanks I just went into bios and changed to 4gb. Fingers crossed.

Unless there is a specific game or games you know won't work on a Steam Deck with Linux there is little reason to abandon Valve's OS for Windows. Nothing wrong with doing so either, just adding complication where it is probably not needed. There are a few good reasons to change to Windows (or even dual boot) but I find a majority of people do so because they do not want to learn a new OS, no real functional reason behind it. Not saying that is you though.
I feel exactly the same and posted a similar opinion not long ago. I also got downvoted. Just want to say ignore the haters!

How would this be for Forza Horizon 5? I know it's only partially supported in Steam Deck and I'd rather do the Windows version (over steam) so it will sync my Xbox progress.

Thank you and everyone who responded. Just bought it as it came back in stock. I'm buying this + dock as a replacement for my parents computer (broken Alienware steam machine from 2014).. I figured it's cheap PC and they just surf the net. And whenever I come to visit I could just play some games. I probably will leave it as 64 gb since they don't really do anything except streaming or surf the news. Haven't decided dual boot or strictly Win 11. Might do it in micro sd card. I think with Win 11, Valve did release some drivers specifically to aid in the performance so it has some love, but yes they are laser focused more on SteamOS which is great too. I'm waiting to see what playtron comes up with in unifying all handheld devices with their OS for gamers.

I really love the compactness of the handheld and its dual mode as portable + station. I feel this is a moment where ppl want mobility and ability to put it on screen.

I have an official steam dock and bought a generic dock. Surprisingly the generic dock I bought is better than the official steam deck as it does SD, Rog Ally, and Legion go. It has other design features that were smart and. Adapts even if your gadget has a case protector. It's called " Steam Deck Dock, Baseus 6-in-1 Docking Station for Steam Deck & ROG Ally & Legion Go with HDMI 2.0 4K@60Hz" for like $34 and even puts iPad Pro and SP8 on big screen. I recommend it even over the official SD dock which couldn't do my SD with silicon cover. At first I thought it was a lemon bc Minecraft hits 20-30fps, turns out that the nvidia mod used like shading and brought gameplay down. When I used other mod Minecraft got 50-60 fps.

feel like you coulda just bought them a cheap desktop. coulda came with a monitor keyboard mouse etc, too. even something used on ebay could last longer. i've bought many hp mini machines off ebay.. they're awesome.. been running as servers and desktops. tons of ports and easy to self-upgrade. it was like $70.. that leaves a ton of $$ for a monitor keyboard etc.

Touché. Lol, if I were being perfectly honest I just needed an excuse to buy a second SD. Those mini HTPC are cool too but I want the ability to play some decent games as well for myself. I was about to go with this deal for Z1 but since the SD was $100 less, I figured it's the better value in my particular case, albeit still wasteful.

Update: did SD with windows 11 for 2nd SD, SSD upgrade to 2tb. Windows 11 works like a charm. Gonna read books on it, play games. No regrets. Decided against dual boot so having a system duo was better.

Costco it's your turn to start selling these too! If Sam's Club has the ASUS ROG Ally, y'all should have it too.

Save and get the extreme version. You'll regret it later if you get the z1
