That is the main use case for the masses.

The more advanced use case is routing traffic via Wireguard/OpenVPN for security or IP filtering or more nefarious purposes like routing your work computer to your home network then to company VPN in order to avoid getting detected while working in not allowed locations...
This model is getting to be very old. Despite having a USB port, you CANNOT use a USB drive with this and mount it using SMB. You used to be able to, but once they updated the firmware to the most recent version, there wasn't enough memory to support NAS functionality.

It is still a good router, and it still likely to be able to keep up with the network in most hotels (which is usually crappy). But don't expect too much. Still, I have a couple and I carry one with my laptop.
There's an faster AC travel router from them on sale for $33 -

Good to know - do you have a recommendation for a better one?

I remember that sale and that was for "renewed" Mango MT-300N V2. That renewed deal was awesome with the Beryl on sale for like $20, too. I ordered the renewed mango and the box and everything looked new. Gl.Inet is current selling them "used" on this page and free shipping for $13.90 https://www.amazon.com/GL-iNet-GL...B0C9GXSTY4

How does that work? Is that using cellular data so tethering but without the official "I'm tethering" stamp?

Just to let you know, it only does 2G. I use for wifi items in my house that only respond to 2G. I picked up a while ago for $19. I haven't regretted the purchase. If only it had 5G.

Does this let you connect it to a wireless network with a captive portal (like at a hotel), and then share that wireless connection to other devices?

I've seen people with issues connecting gaming systems like the Switch as well as Kindles to these types of networks.

I'm wondering if this would resolve that issue.
