It always surprises me how good of job Apple did with the AirPods Pro all around, hard to beat something you put in your pocket and just throw on a Qi charger
Yup I realized that after placing an order. Xm4 is the better deal. Oh wells I guess I will soon have both xm4 and xm5 to compare

Back in 2021 my headphones stopped holding a charge. I was tempted to upgrade to a newer Sony model. After some research I decided to buy a new battery. Found the exact battery for my headphone on eBay. Unscrewed a few screws on one of the ear cups and swapped the new battery in. Easy peasy! Purchased new ear cushions and put them. The headphones were like new again and it's been smooth sailing since then.
My favorite use for the wireless Sonys is connecting them to my Amazon Fire Stick to watch and listen to movies streamed through Kodi. Watched the classic Leon The Professional this past week. Eric Serra's soundtrack came to life with throbbing bass notes and shimmering sleigh bells . Just amazing!
As long as you don't toss your headphones around and replace the battery and cushions as needed theses headphones can last perhaps a decade or more.
I have 1000xm3, it seems like the noise cancelling barely works nowadays. Almost hear no difference with it on vs off.
Is there some microphone that needs cleaning that can restore it? Also pads are worn, is it worth replacing that or just getting a new model? Thanks

I'm not familiar with that specific model. But headphones with ANC will usually deploy multiple mics around the ear capsules and inside the cavity where the ears sit. If you can identify the mic locations it may be possible to clean them. The mics could collect detritus and skin oils. Third party aftermarket ear cushions can alter the sound presentation, sometimes for the worse. If you can find the OEM replacement cushions get a pair or two because eventually Sony discontinues them. For North America Sony parts are available through the Sony Encompass website.
