Not super awesome tablets, but they're great for the kids. We got a pair of them a couple of years ago and they're still doing pretty well as media/kid game devices, especially when we travel.
So I have the 2GB version but I was able to do XDA YEARS ago and it still works pretty good for what it is (with everything Amazon completely disabled including Alexia).
But XDA no longer works.
Today this tablet is a COMPLETE WASTE OF YOUR MONEY... IMHO.
The tablet to buy today FOR BEST VALUE... is
LincPlus T3 at Amazon for $110 (use to be $90) (comes with 8GB / 128GB)
10.36" screen FHD
OR
Iplay 50 mini Pro NFE $142 (comes with 8GB / 256GB)
8.4" screen FHD
I have both of them and they are good. I have received many more updates with the iplay 50 mini pro NFE. The iplay has ONE mediocre speaker but I use bluetooth buds or headphones.
Both these tablets are AMAZING for what you get.

YouTube, Facebook, Netflix, Amazon prime video? Seriously all those are laggy?
If you use one app at a time. Use the app KillApps to delete all background processes and clear your memory. You can use YouTube IF you SIDELOAD GOOGLE PLAYSTORE and then download it.
All your apps will work fine BUT you can only use one app at a time.

As someone who just did it to 4 tablets, I disagree.
So you disagree with the person who made the software XDA Amazon Tool Box and you are right and everyone else is wrong.
This is what the developer says...
Restricted equates to wether or not Amazon has locked down the firmware. When a firmware is restricted it means we cannot fully block OTAs, use custom launchers without Fire Launcher, lock screen ads can no longer be permanently removed, and some system apps can't be disabled.
It has been about 3 years since Amazon sold a UNRESTRICTED tablet.
I also don't understand why someone would lie about this.

And YES, clean them off with Fire Toolbox first!

Or the Samsung for 175 that comes with a SD695 128GB/ 8GB.
Personally I love the 8.4" size, so I would lean towards the iplay.
