Correct.
Toyota built this as a compliance car to fill a gap in the lineup and has zero focus on it or care. If anything, it is the 'look we built an EV, it sucks!'. The first production run had WHEELS FALLING OFF. They recalled every single one! The car is slow and just utterly wild in it's idiocy.

We test drove the badge engineered Subaru version - the Solterra. Same car, different logo.
The list of infuriating choices piled fast. Want to move the driver's seat? BEEPS. CONSTANT BEEPS.
Want to back up? It beeps on the inside and inside only. Who are they warning?! Me? I"M DRIVING THE CAR.
The performance is just bad. It has a quick little bit of torque and then falls on it's face.
Did I mention the range sucks and that the car does not support fast charging so you literally cannot roadtrip it without hour-long-stops?
All in all, it just felt like Toyota was completely uninterested in building it as it is lower margin than gas/hybrid.

Then you have the ioniq 5. Hyundai's focus is straight up on on beating the Tesla Model Y. They are serious and in it. The car is shockingly better looking in person than the BZ4X. The interior feels like tomorrow and has innovative ideas, way more range, way better software, etc.
Korea is currently having the same moment that Japan had in the 90s, Hyundai should be taken seriously, esp in the EV space.

I emailed every SoCal Toyota dealers within 100 miles. No one has any 2023 or 2024 model. All they tried to do was to upsell me for $300-350/mo + $3000-3500 down. I told them I would just go get Tesla Model Y at this price, they said Toyota is better car than Tesla, which made me to end the discussion immediately.

The name sounds like one of those no name brands of Chinese junk on Amazon.
I am waiting for the days where I can order a cheap BYD on Amazon like a cheap electric scooter. Big Grin

Not only in the dealership if you read the comments some people thinks Toyota EVs are as good as Toyota gas cars.

Judging by my Dad's Sienna and my Tundra after 17 years are going, yes, Toyota IS demonstrably better than Mercedes in MANY fronts (Reliability and cost of repair to begin with).

I've owned both Toyota and Benz in last 20 years. Currently driving Prius and Corolla, but the last car was Mercedez C class. I can tell you Toyota is 100% better car than Benz.

This is not about Toyota brand, this is about bz4x specific EV model. I am a big fan of Toyota, I had several used/ new toyota cars in the past 12 years. But this one is nothing but trash. A friend of mine had this car from day one, it has no fast charging, mile range is horrible, driving is not fun. He always had a hard time finding compatible charging station. After a month owning it, he had mechanical issue, since it was under warranty he took to dealership. It took weeks to get it repaired. He ended up returning the car.

Search how much this junk (sorry didn't mean to be rude) sells in China and you'll be surprised.

Got the Subaru Solterra on the lease deal. Aside from the chimes we love the vehicle! Great for our needs as a second car!

EV fans have their opinion of how great an EV should be, but maybe set the bar too high as a standard to consider other brands and their contribution to their target markets.
