GLD and physical gold are for different purposes. Anyone who watched what happened in Cypress with bank bailins, and knows that the US changed its laws to allow bank bail-ins, has a healthy distrust of the banking system. It's good to have some of your wealth in physical assets that the bank can't take from you in the next crisis.

If over the weekend the government did a financial reset, you could see gold revalued on Monday at 2x or 5x higher. If you own GLD, you won't get that gain, because the bank can legally close the fund and give you back your money (at Friday's price).

We have like 5% of our assets in physical gold and silver. I'd like it to be more but don't like paying these prices.

Can someone give some detail on why it's a deal? Assuming you can sell it for market value of gold, it's $150 profit?
You can't generally resell for retail market value

The gold price as of today is 2,330.00 give or take. The coin itself sell for 2,379.99 which is above spot price. However for some reason it has $150 discount applied to it. Make the final price is: 2,229.99
Basically you can easily make around $100 in profit + whatever cash back/credit card bonus most people often have when they buy this gold coin. For example, if you use the citi costco card you get up to 4% in cash back of whatever you bought at costco.

My rule of thumb is if you must ask, then generally it's not for you.

Honestly, where can you actually sell a bar like this at market price?

I mean....a pawn shop or jeweler ain't paying full price.

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking, but good to know for the future on what to look for. I don't think my rewards make it worth the price
