This (and similar tools) are great for miscellaneous cuts where you don't need a lot of depth: sheet goods (plywood, drywall), tile, wood/laminate/vinyl flooring, metal and plastic sheeting or pipes, conduit, etc. They're also useful for masonry.

They're not going to replace a circular saw or table saw, as the depth is limited, and they're not going to replace an angle grinder due to lower power and being more a cutting tool than a grinding tool. However, they're a lot faster, easier, and more flexible for most thinner materials. I have a similar tool from a different manufacturer and it's one of my go-to tools for a lot of projects.

Bosch 18v batteries interchange with no issue. The dremel tool has more power with the bosch 4amp battery.

This tool is similar to an angle grinder but allows for more controlled cuts.

$67 "renewed" on Amazon

BTW, BS's decline into complete uselessness continues with them now limiting the inventory search results to 2 stores. You also can't (easily) change the zip code.

Any reason to get this if I already have this?

It depends on what you usually do/work with. The mini saw can't do straight plunge cuts and still makes some radius on the cuts, for example if I need to make a smaller notches in materials to fit like trim work together especially square shaped notches then multitool is the only thing that will work for that (or router with chiesel) because of it's versatility and somewhat reduced personal damage (due to limited movement of the blade since it operates by oscillation not high RPMs) I end up using it a lot more often than rotozip even. It could be used for precise cutting and detailed sanding. It's not a powerhorse like grinder, saw or Sawzall though.

I just picked up the multi tool and the saw. Tried to find the corded one but this store didn't have it. I may check another. Would prefer corded because some reviews say the battery life is kind of crappy. It was a no brainer to pick up the multi tool because a spare battery is the same price (without the tool.) The multi tool reviews aren't as good however. Can anyone confirm only proprietary attachments can be used with these (and they cost more $$$)? I don't know if I'll end up keeping them (I usually stick with Ridgid's generous warranty), but wanted to grab them just in case.

Where would this excel over a Dewalt cordless oscillating tool, besides maybe a faster straight-line cut? I have one like this, and it is 55% off:
https://www.amazon.com/DEWALT-Osc...multi-tool [amazon.com]
Honestly, they tend to have pretty different use-cases. This is more like a light-weight, specialized cross between a circular saw and an angle grinder. Oscillating tools are great for a lot of tasks, especially things that other tools can't do or can't do easily. They're not good for most long, straight-line cuts, though, and they're not a great fit for a lot of situations and materials. For example, I might use an oscillating tool for cutting out grout, but I'm going to grab something like the Ultra Saw to cut the tile. Same for any sheet goods (wood, drywall, flooring, metal, plastic, etc), unless all I needed was a quick hole in drywall and I already had the oscillating tool on-hand.

Think of this tool more like a light angle grinder that can be used across more materials and with a style more like a light circular saw.

There's a lot of overlap between them. I do have both, so I'm not going to argue strongly against it, but there's a pretty small percentage of things that one can do and the other can't. A lot of it comes down the style of cutting or work that you're doing. The DeWalt cut-off is more convenient for odd shaped things or tighter spaces, while the Ultra Saw is (much) more convenient for cutting flat/sheet goods. As an example, if I were dealing with flooring, I'd grab the Ultra Saw. If I'm cutting up metal fencing, I'd grab the DeWalt. The Ultra Saw can also do some light grinding/surface prep, although I've never used it for that and I'm always going to grab my angle grinder for that. The DeWalt is a pure cut-off tool, no grinding.

Is there any adapter to use Ryobi batteries on this Dremel tool?

Tempting, but clearly don't want to invest in another line on top of Ryobi and Craftsman.

I have used the corded one several times cutting metal exhaust pipes. Works very well. Not sure about plastic since it's an abrasive blade, not toothed like a saw.
The cordless one works better for catalytic converter cuts..... Frown
( can say that as I was a victim of a stolen catalytic converter )

Sawzall is better though.

Anybody care to comment on the battery life of the ultrasaw? Trying to see how much I really want to hunt the corded version.

This Dremel saw is totally different then all others listed here. It has special blade which allows smooth cutting of any plactic like acrylic . I use it more frequently that I thought. Regular grinders discs just melt plastic leaving burnt uneven surface. This one actually cuts and makes smooth cut.It also has a base that regular grinders do not have allowing very precise cutitng and also you can regulate depth. Just bought the battery one- only battery is in the range of 60 $ and it apperars there are adapters converting Dewalt battery to Bosch. Not worth 170 but 70 is a bargain

If you can find the multi tool that is also clearanced for the same price you'll have a spare battery plus a free tool, that's what I ended up doing.
