Customers pay the return fee😲.
In What world is this business ? And their return policy recommends to buy insured FedEx return service.

Will never buy from the retailer who does online business but does not provide free return service.

I am no longer in the business of selling online. You should understand the push and pull involved. Shipping is expensive. Free shipping on returns is even more costly and that is not even figuring the cost of processing returns and ensuring the returned item is the real thing. If you raise your prices to accommodate free returns another competitor will crop up with lower prices. The result will be only those likely to return will shop from you and your return churn will approach 50%.
You may not like it but the tide is slowly turning to charging for returns. Many merchants have realized that being the last one with a liberal return policy attracts the wrong clientele, such as those that returned old laptops to Costco before they changed their electronics return policy.

There's also the counter argument to that where If I'm on the fence for a product and I realized I'll have to pay for returns considering I can't physically see or try the product, I'm most likely going to pass. I'd rather go to a physical store where I don't have to be charged to return a product I'm unhappy with. Kinda the whole reason Amazon is so popular.

Many merchants? The vast majority of merchants factor in both "free shipping and returns" into the cost. As stated by xerox above, the free returns is a factor in why Amazon is so popular. Losing a customer over free returns is bad business. Perhaps that is why you are no longer in such a business?

As I mentioned, factoring in the costs moves you to a costlier price than some competitors. As for my decision, I simply found better opportunities. No need to worry (or gloat).
