That would be a poor chain, not the saw itself (providing you didn't hit any dirt or other objects). Bar oil is NOT for the cutting side of the chain, but for where the chain slides on the bar - hence "bar" oil. The cheapest saw with a good chain will cut circles around the best with a dull chain.

I bought one over the winter and got a chance to use it this spring. It's fantastic for cleaning up. I tried using a reciprocating saw last year but it beats you up with vibration and takes forever. I usually use bypass loppers to clean up smaller stuff but this is a lot faster and easier on you. Also, it's can handle much thicker stuff and you can work it one handed so you can cut directly into a yard cart or wheelbarrow.

I have a 4.0 battery and it lasted as long as I did (a couple of hours). I had a spare battery sitting on the deck if I needed it but I never changed it out. I did loosen the chain and drop some bar oil under the chain before I started (just seems weird to not use any at all) and it disassembles easily as any chainsaw to blow it clean at the end.

Speaking of the chain. Ryobi uses an off size for this saw. The pitch is easy enough to find but the length is impossible. You have to get a chain that's in between the link length. They do this so you think you have to buy their $15 chain. Which isn't even available.

If you're looking for something similar (and don't care about brand), there's a brushless one at Menards with battery for $70 (before rebate) https://www.menards.com/main/outd...-10109.htm

Also for the people suggesting just get a reciprocating saw, that's not a bad idea, but make sure you get a good blade like this. I've cut down a 20 foot pine about a foot in diameter with only these blades. https://www.amazon.com/Bosch-5-Pi...000FAPPAA/

Also great for cutting palm fronds: Milwaukee M12 HACKZALL. I've wondered if or how much better (versatile) the HACKZALL is compared to these one handed mini chain saws. Also, Amazon has pages and pages of cordless 6" chainsaws, in the $20 - $70 range, all no-name China crap, I'm guessing.

Just bought one at Home Depot for $79.99 last week. There was a big poster sign at Home Depot indicating it was $20 off. However, at the self-checkout, it showed up as $99.99. I showed the photo of the sign to the checkout person, and he overwrote the price for me.

$99.99 is the "brush" motor version.
$149.99 is the "brushless" motor version.

I was just about to leave this same comment. I bought a Merecee 4" chain saw for about $20 or $25 18 months or so ago and there is no project it can't do. For example when a 30' high pine tree about 10" thick fell on my land — with a little persistence —I was able to strip off most of the larger branches and then cut the trunk into manageable pieces that I could haul off into the woods by myself using that 4" saw.
