Refurbished has replaced the word USED! Now Factory Refurbished is what you have to look for if you want a "new-ish" system.

I don't have much knowledge on this items. Can I buy this as primary laptop? And what is this extended warranty if I buy two extended warranty, can I get two years of warranty?

As a heads up, Dell Refurbished has not been doing a great job with the "refurbished" part lately - at least for Latitudes (those are the only "dell" threads I pay attention to). There have been lots of comments in various threads. While Dell Refurbished used to ship a decent product most of the time, it seems they're shipping a poorer product often now - and most (all?) computers are marked with a green label on the back saying they were refurbished by FedEx supply chain.

At minimum, open up the back of the computer and look at it. Is the fan so gunked up that an idiot would know it's not ok? (Yes, this has happened to me recently). This signifies that no one even opened the back of the computer to "refurbish" it.

Also, run a battery report to make sure the battery still has 80% of the design capacity. (Google this and you'll find instructions.) Even if your battery is at over 80%, it may drop quickly (this happened to me over a couple of weeks), so use the computer a lot and check it again, within the first 3 weeks. If it drops under 80%, call Dell and ask them to replace the battery.

If you purchased a Grade A computer, make sure it meets their specifications - it also seems like they're selling as "Grade A" computers that don't meet the "Grade A" specifications (yes, this happened to me).

And, pay for at least a full year warranty, unless you're really an expert at dealing with computer problems.

It's too bad - Dell Refurbished used to provide a reliable product for the most part. Now, it seems they're selling Latitudes that have a lot of problems that will reduce the life span, and don't even meet their own specifications.

Seems like a decent machine. How old is the CPU?

It is 2-3 generations old. But perfectly fine for typical everyday tasks. The 32gb ram is nice, gives you plenty of room to grow.

I've been buying from dell refurbished for nearly 20 years now and have had good luck with their "A" condition systems.

Just bought another one the end of last month. It looked new except for a couple of very minor nicks on the edge. The fans and heat sinks look brand new. No sign of use other than those couple of barely noticeable nics.
The battery did have quite a bit of wear. It was at 78% capacity remaining when I first got it, after using it for 3 or 4 cycles it dropped down to 59% capacity. I emailed support and they shipped me a brand new replacement battery. However they sent the lower capacity battery. I reached out and they sent me a partial refund. Enough to cover the cost of a new OEM Dell high capacity battery from ebay (they sent me the link to ebay).

Overall I have been very satisfied with Dell refurb. I've only received one system in 20 years that was in bad physical shape even though it was indicated as an "A" condition. one quick email to them and they sent a return shipping label. No cost to send it back to them for a full refund. All other systems have arrived looking like it was almost new.

Returns

What is the return policy?
You may return product purchases within 30 days from the date of the invoice to obtain credit for the purchase price (excluding shipping and handling charges). Please note a restocking fee of 15% of the purchase prices may be charged unless the product is defective (as reasonably determined by DFS at DFS's sole discretion) or the return is a direct result of a DFS error.
To return products, please contact us at 800-891-8595 to obtain an RMA (Return Material Authorization) and for the instructions on returning the item back to DFS.

FYI dellrefurbished.com is not the same as the Dell Outlet site that sells used, open box, and refurb units. This site is owned and operated by Dell Financial Services and these are off-lease devices that likely were used for 3-5 years. Dell Outlet has been wonderful for me for over a decade (but no recent purchases)- same MFG warranty as new. Dell refurbished is just Dell's financial arm's way of dumping old PCs onto the public directly instead of selling to refurbishing companies (that then put them up on eBay).
