Currently $463.51 with a $50 coupon right below the price = $413.51.

The 8000 BTU unit with heat is also available for $379.99 - $20 coupon = $359.99.

These units are not U-shaped but they do have a heat pump function which works down to an outside temperature of 41F. They also use a variable speed inverter driven compressor like the U-shaped models so they are very efficient and quiet.

I have this unit as well as the U-shaped 8,000 BTU model, and the heat pump model works well but the air sealing through the accordion side panels and through the unit itself is nowhere near as good as the U-shaped unit, so it's a bit less efficient and it was letting humidity in on windy or rainy days. I ended up going back to the U-shaped model but will keep the heat pump for next winter.

The heat pumps are junk on these… will only heat if outside temp is above 40F or so…

I read somewhere about a way to move the thermostat inside the house.

That's not really the problem in my experience. This thing will attempt to run below 40F, if it's first turned on when it's warmer than that, but you will get cycling, poor heat output, and some interesting LOUD cracking sounds coming from the unit in the middle of the night. Such bad noises and pathetic heat output that I purposely shut the unit off when it's under 40F. Meanwhile, the Whynter R-410 14k BTU portable unit I picked up is only "rated" for above 40F, but works down to below freezing fine, without any bad sounds, less cycling, and with better heat output at the 25-40F temperatures than the Midea window unit. The Midea is about 25% more efficient overall for in-room heat than the portable unit when accounting for design and tubing losses.

Sounds like for efficiency, the Midea is still the way to go

This one has heat, and that's all I care.

This is the one on sale for $280 two years ago at Costco. Let's pray that it'll come back this year.

I've been waiting for that sale to come around again to buy a second unit but so far nothing. I need a new AC and just going to jump on the costco sale one that's going on. I still have my other heater that has been working for the past 5 winters so another 2 winters or so isn't a problem.
