I regularly push 30gb/mo now and I don't do 1/10th of the video streaming I would do through my phone. One HD Netflix stream and be 4,5gb on its own. Add that up over a month and you can easily break 100gb. I mostly use it for work now but I am downloading ~4gb nightly of files to go over and most of the time, I am in bed when they roll in at 2am so I just review from bed.

If you're home why aren't you using wifi?

HD streaming on a phone is a waste of bandwidth, you can't see the difference on a 5 to 7 inch screen....

There are definitely people that need more than 5 gigs, but there are plenty (probably even a majority) that do not. If you need more than 20 to 30 gigs then Visible's $45 plan is the way to go, 50 gigs of prioritized data followed by unlimited de-prioritized, plus unlimited mmWave data. Hotspot is capped at 10 megabits/sec but still unlimited data.

Oh I didn't say I was a reasonable or smart person. I'm on WiFi most of.the time but if I am traveling and have to watch a 4gb to 8gb video every night to review then it adds up quick.
Last month I was home all month, on WiFi, still pushed about 26gb?

Like it's not a great thing! It definitely doesn't make me cool or better liking. Haha. I am just the actual outlier for plans like this and I am, unfortunately more lately than not, a Google lock-in since the Nexus 4. Have the 6 Pro, skipped the 7 because it wasn't worth the upgrade, same with 8 Pro since I need the biggest model they have and even with trading in a phone and random deals it was always still like $700 min.

The reason why this COULD be attractive to someone like me is the upgrade for the summer (even though my 6 Pro in all the betas is pretty much the same software as the 8 Pro) and then use it as the trade up for the 9 Pro in the fall and get the most value for it to know off the 8 Pro which will still probably come out to ~$700 again but it is what it is.

Call and tell them about your upcoming overseas trip, they take care of the rest.
Could you please explain what will happen after that? Immediate unlocking? Do they require any proof?

The locking is essentially to prevent you from selling the plan to someone else and using the phone for a different carrier (since the plan is prepaid). Once you activate the plan and use it for a week, they're pretty flexible since you can't get a refund or transfer it to someone else. But an overseas trip (necessitating the use of a local SIM card potentially) is a valid reason to ask for an early unlock, though not really even necessary, often they'll just unlock it once your refund period has passed. Of course YMMV, officially it is 1 year.

I guess Mint's "unlimited" (40 gig) plan is still attractive at $30 a month, maybe even the new 60 gig plan at 40/mo, but at that point I'd be seriously considering one of the alternatives out there.

For me my 5G is plenty, rarely go over 1 gig and when I travel I use windscribe's 10GB free VPN so I can use hotel wifi etc. I don't watch much video and all my music is stored on the phone. Plus with referral credits I haven't paid for service for 3 years now, so pretty hard to beat.

For those that use 1G or less (or even a couple gigs), US Mobile is really attractive. They have verizon and T-Mobile and it is $6 per month if you pay yearly for 1 gig and I think additional gigs are like $5.

Ordered one on 5/3, my credit card was immediately charged, but never received an order confirmation e-mail. Called today (5/8), after spending half an hour chatting with CSR, finally got my order number and was told the order was stuck for some reason and had not been shipped. I was hoping to switch my wife's plan from another carrier before it renews on 5/11. Mint Mobile is so screwed up.

So you paid in full instead of financing? I'm considering the offer, and my current provider (TbV) cycles on the 16th each month. Do you know how fast are you going to receive the phone after working out the order issues?

Finally got an order received confirmation e-mail last night, 6 days after my order was placed and CC charged. No shipment yet. I am sure it won't arrive until after 5/11. I think Mint Mobile's ordering system is messed up after the merger with TMobile. Plan at least a week and half to receive it after ordering and if you call them. If you do not need a phone, US Mobile currently has the best deal with unlimited data (10GB Premium Data) for $180/12 months with taxes and fees INCLUDED, unlike Mint Mobile's which adds another $20ish taxes and fees on top of the $180 and only with 5GB data.

How long do we have before the phone has to be activated on Mint? Do we have 30 days from the time we receive the phone?
