I like EV's a lot (currently own 2)… rented a Polestar 2 for a week while traveling and really hated it. Felt super small inside and did not make good use of the interior space like most other EV's do. We had heard good things about Polestars and were surprised how much we didn't like it. It was such a treat to return home to our Bolt EUV.

This is what I see for Delaware:

Due at signing
First Monthly Payment
$283.68
Registration Fee
$75.00
Delaware Doc @ 4.25%
$1,985.00
Documentation Fee
$699.00
Tax On Fees
$29.71
Down payment
$3,000.00
Tax on Rebate, Trade-in and Down Payment
$59.74
Sales Tax (1.99%)
$1,985.00
Due At Signing
$6,132.13

Per the website a Delaware resident is being asked to pay Delaware 'sales tax' (the 4.25% DE doc fee) plus NJ sales tax... Maybe that's not the case in person. But wow. The above is for 27 months with 7500 miles.

Actually disregard the extra tax line. Looks like it's just re-stating the Delaware Doc fee.
Probably...since NJ doesn't charge sales tax on electric vehicles

Chat GPT provides different insight: Choosing between the Polestar 2 and the Tesla Model 3 depends on various factors such as price, features, and personal preferences. Here's a comparison based on the latest information:

**Price**:
- The **2023 Tesla Model 3** recently dropped in price to **$38,990**, making it one of the most affordable new EVs².
- The **Polestar 2** has a starting price of **$49,900**².

**Reliability**:
- The Tesla Model 3 earned a **75 out of 100** predicted reliability rating².
- The Polestar 2's reliability rating is **64 out of 100**, which is lower by comparison².

**Seat Comfort**:
- The Tesla Model 3 offers more shoulder room and more rear-seat legroom, making its interior more spacious and comfortable².

**Performance**:
- The dual-motor AWD Polestar makes **408 hp** and **487 lb-ft** of torque¹.
- The Tesla Model 3 is known for its impressive range and performance, with various models to choose from¹.

**Features**:
- The Polestar 2 boasts good power, available all-wheel drive, and impressive safety features¹.
- The Tesla Model 3 offers over-the-air updates, semi-autonomous driving features, and access to the Supercharger network¹.

Ultimately, the Tesla Model 3 seems to offer better value and reliability, along with a more comfortable interior. However, if you prioritize safety features and all-wheel drive, the Polestar 2 could be a better choice. It's important to consider your specific needs and preferences before making a decision.

My point was different. Chatgpt has not considered 2 important points ie. Technology and quality.

I have explained them if you follow the thread. There are many ways to slice it

If you live in CA, 27 months is a terrible lease deal for any car, because you will need to pay three years of registration fee in full. FYI
Been paying $700+ registration fee for my 2021 Polestar.

I can see why Elon makes sure they are banned here.

...wut?

BYD is not "banned" here- in fact they sell EV buses here.

https://en.byd.com/bus/

That's their EV buses sold, today, in the US.

And Elon can't "ban" car makers- he's not a government.

BYD has actively chosen not to enter the US light vehicle market however- per their own executives.

https://electrek.co/2024/02/27/by...ll-evs-us/

That's BYD saying they don't plan to enter the US consumer market because it's too confusing.

BYD makes perfectly good vehicles, FWIW-- but the main reason they sell more EVs in China than Tesla (and ONLY in China, Tesla is ahead in every other market they both sell cars in) is twofold:

The Chinese government subsidizes native manufacturers more- which leads to:
The vast majority of their BEV sales are due to them selling smaller and cheaper cars. Which obviously you sell a larger # of than larger more expensive ones.

BYDs profit per car is far worse as a result than Teslas (and would be worse still if not for the government propping them up in the Chinese market specifically)

I had one of these for a week as a rental, it sucked. The interior design is lacking. I took it back and requested another vehicle. They gave me a Kia Niro EV and that was still a better design than the Polestar from an interior comfort perspective.

Are you my competition for the one Jupiter in stock immediately? lol. I am doing a test drive tomorrow just for the sake of it but I'm not likely to bite.

Ha no sir. That Jupiter's all yours. That's the cheapest color option I think? Please message me back your cost breakdown. I'll probably call to get more clarity but if it's anywhere north of $3K down I'm out. This whole thread feels bait and switch. $1k down at $300 monthly I'd be in but doesn't seem like a single person has gotten that deal understanding state taxes differ but still.

Not gonna work.

Something to consider In Los Angeles - buy a 3 year old USED model 3 from a dealer for $25k or less, get $4k back from government (if you qualify), $1500 back from utilities co, $1000 charger/install credit from utilities co…. And you have a 3 year old Tesla for under $20k with a free level 2 charger at home.

BYD will have to spend more money to pass USA vehicle crash testing.

A 3 yr old used Tesla in LA probably has 60,000 miles.
