Bought this on preorder, was released in March. Has been flawless since I got it. Vacuums great, mopping is awesome. Runs twice a day. Mapping is great, much better than the shark and ecobot I've had before.

Agreed. I got mine two months ago and paid about this price. Could not be happier with it.

He's justified, Anker has a terrible record for privacy. They put out "private" "local storage only" cameras a while back that were uploading all photos and videos to offshore servers and applying facial recognition. I would be very hesitant to give these goons a camera covered robot in my home. Check out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gMe2K-bHSdI for details.
Is that what the Anker controversy was about? I remember seeing a throw away line on someone not liking Anker because of some shady stuff they did in the past. This is worse than what I had assumed it could be.

That doesn't make the person's comments justified in any way though because they aren't really related at all. Yes, scummy company probably will continue to do scummy stuff but every company is scummy. There is no connection between them being shady with your data and buying reviews. If they have, then I rescind the comment but it doesn't help the original person's case that they aren't elaborating but are just throwing baseless accusations. Being worried about your privacy due to eufy=Anker is fine criticism for potential buyers by itself.

I was actually researching this model today. It has some fairly positive reviews online. Looks like initial firmware had some issues with object detection as well as carpet detection which has gotten better with an update (this is from what I read, I don't have this unit so can't speak first hand, so take it fwiw.)

I did not know Eufy was an Anker brand. I did know about their camera privacy fiasco. The x10 pro claims "X10 Pro Omni only uses images to recognize obstacles, but never saves them to protect your family's privacy. It's also certified with TUV Rheinland ETSI EN 303 645 cyber security standards for added peace of mind."

Here's what odd. Looking at that standard: https://www.etsi.org/deliver/etsi...20101p.pdf

Section 6 seems to be the most relevant:
Quote :
Many consumer IoT devices process personal data. It is expected that manufacturers provide features within consumer IoT devices that support the protection of such personal data. In addition, there exist laws and regulations that relate to the protection of personal data in consumer IoT devices (for example the GDPR [i.7]). The present document intends to help manufacturers of consumer IoT devices provide a number of features for the protection of personal data from a
strictly technical perspective.
Provision 6-1 The manufacturer shall provide consumers with clear and transparent information about what personal data is processed, how it is being used, by whom, and for what purposes, for each device and service. This also applies
to third parties that can be involved, including advertisers.
Provision 6-2 Where personal data is processed on the basis of consumers' consent, this consent shall be obtained in a valid way. Obtaining consent "in a valid way" normally involves giving consumers a free, obvious and explicit opt-in choice of whether their personal data can be used for a specified purpose.
Provision 6-3 Consumers who gave consent for the processing of their personal data shall have the capability to withdraw it at any time. Consumers expect to be able to preserve their privacy by configuring IoT device and service functionality appropriately.
Provision 6-4 If telemetry data is collected from consumer IoT devices and services, the processing of personal data should be kept to the minimum necessary for the intended functionality.
Provision 6-5 If telemetry data is collected from consumer IoT devices and services, consumers shall be provided with information on what telemetry data is collected, how it is being used, by whom, and for what purposes.
And eufy doesn't make any of these options/opt-outs clear, so I guess thats a question for someone who owns it. This also *might* mean that if you opt out, you lose features, since I'm guessing the AI image detection requires pics to be uploaded for analysis, then you are trusting that they will indeed destroy them after.

What I found more odd is, they apparently applied strict standards for their cameras after the privacy fiasco, but these vacuums don't adhere to these standards, or at least, it's not listed as a product that adheres to their privacy commitment:
https://support.eufy.com/s/articl...7358267456

Given this, I decided to pass and wait to see how this does after some time in the wild and some analysis from security pros.

*Edit* also worth noting, per the "what's in the box" section, it doesn't appear to include the mop cleaning solution, so if you are buying one, you probably want to add that to your cart too.

I try not to toe the "Every company is scummy" line because it normalizes bad corporate behavior. We need to buy things, we can choose what companies to buy them from, companies don't exist if we don't buy their things.

Buying reviews and callously violating privacy law are both shady things, and even more reason not to buy anything from Anker/Eufy.

Love this product. Have had for about 5 months now. Eufy did an amazing job with the app, maintenance is easy, and the amount of dust it picks up especially when you have fur babies and hard wood floor is amazing.

I haven't had a eufy for a while, but when my old basic model's motor went bad they sent a replacement with no hassle.

Comes with only a year of warranty. Even they can't stand behind their own product by actually offering a longer warranty.

Do you just use regular water or distilled? Add any cleaning products to it?

I have the X10, just haven't used the mopping feature yet.

There is an alternative with a better warranty?
