This is from the same people that later did Evangelion. Very similar character design. Loosely based on 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea
I never heard of it either. An early 90s anime, listed on MyAnimeList with a 7.55 user score:

Synopsis
In 1889, the world is on the pinnacle of great discoveries in technology. In mankind's grasp for the future, a sinister foe known only as Gargoyle, obsessed with restoring the former Atlantean empire to the glory it once held, begins his plans to take over the world. Nadia, with the help of a young inventor, Jean Roque Lartigue, and Captain Nemo of the submarine Nautilus, must fight to save the world from Gargoyle and Neo-Atlantis. Based on the Novel '20,000 Leagues Under the Sea' by Jules Verne.

This is a solid anime and definitely worth 10/11 bucks. The bluray release has been out of print for about 2 years now and it a bit of a collector's item.

It's a bit dated, but the concept is 20,000 leagues under the sea, mashed with mysterious cities of gold. This was published before a phase in anime where over the top fan service was the norm, so the show stays relatively serious, without random cut shots of various body parts.

This is an innocence about this anime that lends to its charm. The characters and the anime itself as a depth that both surprising and unique.

Worth $10? I'm pretty simple to please, hell I even like slayers lol
Slayers was a good nostalgic trip! Just recently started listening to the openings and endings again. Definitely brings back fond memories.

If you don't mind hand drawn 90s animation and can look past some pacing issues, you're in for a treat.

This is the first TV series created by Hideaki Anno, creator and director of Evangelion.

I loved it, but there are a lot of filler episodes that don't have to do with the main storyline, but the central storyline is classic Anno. Lots of insane "wtf" developments. Character design was also obviously inspired by Miyazaki characters, which was interesting on its own.

Hey, it's the anime that Disney ripped off wholesale for their Atlantis movie!

awww... THIS and Robotech were my core early teenage memories. Back then I always felt something really dark lurks under the charming presentations, and then we had Evangelion...

Thanks OP!

one of my favs back in the day. for sure a gem, just ignore couple of filler episodes on the island as they were done by a different team abroad due to money constraint.

The follow-on movie (seemingly not included in this "complete" collection) had an absurdly large amount of filler content.

Biggest "what were they thinking?" moment... revealing in the epilogue that a 4 year old eventually married someone 23 years old than her.

This is essentially Anno Hideaki doing his version of Miyazaki's Castle in the Sky on NHK's (Japanese version of BBC/PBS) budget. It was pitched as a family friendly fantasy adventure to the broadcaster but this being Anno and GAINAX.... anyways, it's good and def. worth the $11.

I bought this at $17 as there wasn't a precedent for cheaper. Nice deal!
