Based on my usage starting with a full bowl of almost boiling miso soup and storing my MrBento in an ambient temperature around 73F with no wind, I'd estimate the soup bowl stays hot (over 140F) about 2 hours, then it is very warm (around 110F) around the 3 hour mark, then drops to luke warm (around 90F) at 4 hours. If the ambient temp is a lot lower like in the winter and you keep this where it is snowing and/or windy then the internal containers will lose heat a lot faster than this.

None of the containers are water tight either and they all leak if you tip them sideways.

Serious question. For how long can this hold a reasonably hit temp for let's say a near boiling temp soup?

I have this one and have used it for the last 4 years. The bowl with the screw lid is water tight in my experience, but the other containers can leak if tipped over. The system is designed so that two containers are hot and two containers are room temp. If you follow the instructions and preheat the thermos with boiling water, it will keep your food > 140 F for 6 hours in my experience. You can also use it to keep a lunch cold by freezing water in the soup bowl. It will be fridge temps 6 hours later. Using it with other bowls is hit and miss, common round plastic takeout containers will fit, but the lid which seals the heat in might not.

I have this and pack my kids' lunch with it. I don't think it's necessarily the best for soups if you like it very hot. I use a Zojirushi thermos https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...=UTF8&th=1 for that. That keeps the soup hot, almost scalding for hours.

As with the thermos, you can enhance this bento box's performance by pre-heating it. Just pour very hot/boiling water in it for about 2 minutes, drain and wipe down, and insert the smaller containers.
