I took this flight last year. Don't worry about the meal. I picked up a sandwich from the Whole Foods next to my home in SF before departure to 'save money' but it turned out to cost more than a full meal with Zipair. Turns out Japanese companies don't try to price gouge just because you're trapped on a plane. They had sandwiches in the vending machine at Tokyo airport for less than a dollar.
Just flew with them not too long ago from SFO (5/1/2024). RT is $598 plus luggage fee $57. On board foods and drinks are very cheap but some items are limited like ice creams. Free WiFi access and the whole plane was very clean and comfortable. Flight attendants are friendly and pretty and nice. I would fly with them again.
Been to Tokyo a number of times, never had to take a cab. Like most other big cities in Asia, they have a super convenient public transit system. Unless you happen to miss the last train at night, you rarely need to cab it anywhere. Also, their metro cards aren't city specific, and will work through out the country.

I have to say, the discount is not enough on this deal when you have to add cost to a check in luggage and either buying food at the airport before boarding/inflight meal. If it's sub $600, then I think it's a good deal.

I'd you don't pay for seat selection, does that mean they may randomly assign you and your group or will they at least try to sit you together?

Non-official answer, but I doubt they would give you a seat that cost extra, like windows seat. Maybe if the plane is empty-ish like in 2023, but my recent trips, they were somewhat packed (ie. no empty row), so I think it's unlikely

My cousin and a group of his buddies (8 of them) flew ZA a few months ago and opted not to choose seats. Even tho they booked together, they were all separated…all were in middle seats of the middle aisle of the plane.

Isn't Sept/Oct typhoon season? If one hits on your trip you are stuck inside your hotel for possibly three days. Also Sept is hot and humid.

That's why on every flight I board dead last and browse for the best seat available, and often get a full row of 2 to 4 seats all to myself Smilie

Looks like no changes are permitted.

Only the Seoul flights permit cancellations for a fee. For all other destinations, you only get the airport fees and taxes back if you cancel.

I don't plan to fly with them, but I'm glad they're providing competition on these routes.

Don't go in September unless you like typhoons and hot, humid weather. There's a reason why these tickets are cheap and haven't sold out yet..
