Dang I never seen it this cheap on Amazon. I bought it for $315 3 months ago. Haven't done much with my PC since. Should have waited I guess. Lol oh well. 😅

What do y'all think? I'm still using a 3600 and figure I'll use AM4 a while longer - 5800x3D will probably be my sunset chip. Should I wait and see if price goes lower? I don't strictly need this yet though.

I wasn't in the market for new PC parts at that time though. It wasn't until November that I wanted to upgrade my PC.

Please be careful to check the seller as there seems to be a potential fake seller who is undercutting the amazon price on multiple products, they are selling this CPU for $273 and Amazon is selling it for $274.56. If you look at their profile it is super suspicious. Make sure amazon is the seller and not "Creating Technology ig".

Showed $308.16 before I went to bed last night and shows $308.16 this morning, as well.

This must have been a very limited sale during the overnight hours or perhaps location specific?

Either way, that was a decent sale price. I've been waiting for <$200 to get me by for a year or 2 more, but I have a feeling by the time it gets there (if ever at all) I'll be ready for my new build.

Same here - Been using a 3600X for years and it's been good enough, but I figure I'll upgrade to 5800X3D and ride that out for several more years before moving to AM5. I don't game often enough to "need" the latest and greatest. Might pull the trigger on this deal

Is this still showing $275 for you? I just looked again and it's still at $308.16 for me which it has been for days (lowest priced seller is showing $305).

I have a 3700X and an RTX3070 and don't really *need* to upgrade, but the 5800x3D would be a generous jump and should give me at least another year or two before switching over to an AM5 platform (especially if I decide to upgrade to a 4070ti Super). I figured paying <$1000 could get me by until at least the 6000 series cards release and then build fresh with whatever CPU is available at that time. Would also allow me to move my 4070ti Super over to the AM5 platform if I decide to upgrade sooner.

I'm happy with 60fps max which I get in just about everything at 1440p (and some 4K). I often limit my framerate to 59-60fps anyway for the sake of temps. I'm currently able to play Cyberpunk 2077 at 4K (no ray tracing) with an average of 82fps with all settings on at least High (DLSS Quality and frame gen enabled with mod). On my OLED with Cyberpunk, I find 4K with at least high settings looks vastly superior to 1440p with Medium settings and ray tracing enabled (which I can average about 52fps). I've also been doing a lot of streaming to my Steam Deck which I discovered allows me to play Cyberpunk 2077 with path tracing enabled while still achieving at least 30fps (albeit at 800p resolution and DLSS set to balanced).

Probably a good thing it's not showing $275 for me as my impatient self would likely bite despite wanting to wait for that $200-230 range at most.

Considering AMD will release another new generation CPU soon and the prices for 7800x3d cost only $321 making this 5800x3d over prices. Unless you get a combo deal from Microcenter with MB/RAM/CPU.

Since you already have all the parts with AMD 3600 and want a quick upgrade with a CPU swap, I would consider a 5700x3d or 5600x if the prices are right.

If you are still happy with the current setup, I see no point in upgrading it if you don't plan to upgrade the GPU to a higher tier (unless you already got 3070 or better). Another consideration would be your MB supports PCIE 4.0 because that will be another bottleneck.

Since Memorial Day, Independence Day sales are coming up so expect lower prices.

Good discussion points. I'm far from an expert on PC parts and am just a casual gamer, but I do like to have great quality when I make the time to game.

I have a 6950XT and expect to use it for the next several years. It's been great. I game in 1440 and want high, stable FPS, and I'm willing to pay a decent amount for what I need to get that. I don't need/want the best, but the medium-high spec level seems to appeal most to me.

I don't want to install a new mobo, RAM, etc., so I was eyeing just a quick CPU swap and figured the 5800X3D is probably the best AM4 option for that.

This deal is dead/never was real so it's a moot point now, but I appreciate any advice/guidance you want to give.

Some very valid points. Thanks!

I'm happy with my setup as it gets me by with what I play currently (high resolution with 60fps frame capped). Plus, if the prices keep coming back down to normal (or semi-normal, at least), then I think I can hold off until even Black Friday and pickup the inevitable 7800x3D combos for not much more than what the 5800x3D is currently going for. Hopefully by then we will have more of an idea of what the rest of the 5000 series will be capable of.

If the recent rumors are true in that the 5090 will be less than 30% faster than the 4090 (pretty low considering the 4080 was nearly 40% faster than the 3090), then I'll likely grab a 4070ti Super or a 4080 Super at a price I'm hoping is even less than the current MSRP. Either of those should be more than I need.

The joys of PC components...there's always something else better just a few months away if you can wait. LOL
