  • The units in this event are being sold as "open box" condition. That means that they have been opened due to being a photo sample, a tested working customer return or having damaged packaging. Some non-essential items may be missing from the box. That is the reason for the reduced sale price and the reduced warranty.
  • 1-Year Limited Manufacturer Warranty
  • Don't have Amazon Prime? Students can get a free 6-Month Amazon Prime trial with free 2-day shipping, unlimited video streaming & more.
  • If you're not a student, there's also a free 1-Month Amazon Prime trial available.

yes woot is a legit website. they are owned by amazon, i buy from there frequently
Yeah this is a weird situation. Amazing deal, but not sure I would trust this with woots return policy and track record. Could be very hit or miss.
I just paid $1129 for the M1 Pro Macbook Pro refurbished at Microcenter two weeks ago. 16Gb and 512Mb SSD. 8 core. 90 day warranty but there is Applecare Plus on the machine until December 2025. SSD had ~ 20. hours of one time and it look brand new.

If I had known of this deal I think I would have gone the 10core 1Tb for the extra $117. Seems like a good deal.

Apple Refurbished, but open-box, and with 1 YR Apple Warranty? What ARE these? The 1TB is the obvious deal here for only a few bucks over the 512GB.

Hi, I'm new here. Does anyone know if this page is legit, and if these MacBooks come with a 1-year warranty from the purchase date?

Nice price. But I suspect running LLMs of some size locally on these will be a not uncommon thing people will want to do, well within the lifetime of the laptop.

And for that, my wild guess is 32gb ram is the sweet spot between price and running models with useful capabilities. Or perhaps you could get by with Mac 16gb and one of the new M4 Macs with expanded neural processing.
16GB is more than enough for popular smaller 7-8b parameter models like Mistral and now Llama3.. they also run quite fast.

To run 'more capable' LLMs, you basically need to step up to the >36GB RAM territory for Mixtral 8x7b or a 70b parameter model... there's really not much worthwhile between say, Llama3-8b and Mixtral 8x7b.

Software developer here, I do a bit of work with Docker, and have a few projects running at a time.

I heavily regret not getting 32 GB of ram. She slows down a bit.

Other than that, it's a fantastic machine.

Note. This is just for my use case**

Bought this deals a few months ago. My computer still had Apple care eligibility and 4 cycles. Looked new and came in a warranty box. You can call up Apple and change the purchase date. Pretty easy to do

"new" old stock that got opened and therefor can't be sold as new anymore. Basically demo devices or something like that. Seems like these were never previously sold.
