Note: you'll need a Thunderbolt3 to Thunderbolt2 adapter to use this with newer laptops. I use the Apple one and it works well.

Don't know why just know it's consistently faster than 3rd party adapters I've tried. Might be because it's TB instead of USB.
TB2 has the same form factor as MiniDV; TB3 USB-C. So… if you want it to connect…
I wish they'd made a native GB or even 10GB TB3 adapter.
