This is the Series I that many people say to avoid and seems to be getting cleared out (was just on sale for $350 at Home Depot).

I've been looking at this as well. Seems to be a lot of complaints with the knobs having errors.

How can you tell it's a series 1? I bought one and am waiting for it to be delivered to my local ace. Most of the knob errors seem to be people not understanding how to ingnite the grill properly.

You can tell by the model number. Same model number is listed as Series I on HD.

Buyer beware: You will need 120 AC power to operate this grill, which can be annoying depending on where you use your grill or plan on using it in the event of a power outage.

No, the knob issues are well documents in youtube reviews and user reviews.

People have had to have them replaced regularly.
