A new 182x+ is over due. Hopefully a new 1824+ or 1825+ will be announced soon.

I have to commend synology. I bought mine in 2018, and it's still going strong, no issues. Probably the longest running electronic I have at this point (has survived several computer upgrades, a few TV's, microwaves, two mesh router systems, three robot vacuums, and lots of other misc). Maybe electronics are just made poorly these days, but my Synollgy NAS keeps chugging along.

I just wish it had the Intel processors to transcode on Plex better.

I love my Roku and don't want to have to run a separate second computer just for Plex.

This is a good NAS at this price, although I'd have to say the embedded Ryzen processor is a little lame. My old 1812+ is still running after more than 10 years, with absolutely no maintenance done to it, and maybe 1 reboot a year. DSM is also a great OS for a NAS.

I use this exact unit for Plex and I have had zero issues in 2+ years of ownership. The XS series may be "better" and the Intel cpu may be "better" but this unit is utterly amazing. Transconding has not been a problem at all.

Just hit my 1521+ last month.
FWIW, Synology was zero help.

Keep an eye on the used section too, last time 1821+ was in deal zone for same price, used were going for $749. Used section gets updated frequently. Picked one up, no issues, been very happy with mine.

I bought the same model in the same store more than 3 years ago. It runs perfectly without any issue, never failed once. Before this I have a DS415+, which now is a real time backup of this DS1821+ in my parents home. All I have to do is to clean the dust once a year. I'm satisfied with this setup.

Agree with all the this. I guess I'm a little concerned that there's no further dsm updates for the 1812+ though, and this makes me want to wait for the 1825+, or whatever it's called, just for longer service life.

Same here. DS1813+ purchased March 2014 still going strong a decade later. Synology Hybrid RAID allowed me to swap out original 3TB drives seamlessly with 8TB ones a few years back.

What most people don't realize is that you need to use Synology branded HDDs and Memory for the XS series, which significantly impact the cost value equation.

Worth upgrading from a 923+ that's underutilized or just wait for when the newer version is released? Reason for asking is that these still can use cheaper pcie network card upgrades versus having to buy synology variants
