The cameras have 8gb onboard memory for recordings and can be accessed by app. With the home base, you get to store the data in home base (16gb internal + Usb expandable) and there are additional AI features that you can use with the camera. The AI features seem to be worth it if the cams are being used in an area that has a fair amount of traffic because it can reduce unnecessary notifications and additional features to help parse out what is captured (or not captured).
