No. It just uses homebase and then all the data ans such stays in your home on the hdd.

Rechargeable battery powered. Believe it says charge once every 3 months pending use. Can get an after market solar panel to attach though.

I got the Homebase3 used on Amazon for around $100 recently. Came brand new, no issues so far. The difference is storage potential and added AI. The homebase 3 you can add up to 16TB of additional storage with an hard drive or ssd. I just added 1tb, anything above that seemed like overkill in my setup.
