I'm interested in getting an American Express card.

I don't want a card that requires an annual fee. I'm also not interested in travel or gasoline rewards. Primarily I'm interested in cash back rewards and deals on subscriptions, services, etc

What is the best card to get in terms of rewards and bonus features? My credit score is around 800.

From what I can determine one of the Nlue Cash cards would be best for me. The Preferred card has a $95 fee after the first year which might be okay depending on the other benefits over the Everyday Blue Cash card

I'm a senior citizen without a lot of expenses that a family has which is why the preferred car with the $95 annual fee most likely doesn't make much sense for me.

Amex EveryDay will earn points for this kind of Amazon deal, but there aren't many of those, and that's really all it's good for. Otherwise I think you're right that the Blue Cash Everyday is the best option. Looks like there is a signup bonus of $200 when you spend $2000 if you find the right link

Well you need to look if you have a 401K you can get some cards for free depending on your 401k value.
look here
https://www.bankrate.com/finance/...nnual-fee/

You may need several cards, My Amazon card offers 5% back on Amazon purchases, Lowes has a credit card for 5% back at Lowes.

Where do you do most of your spending, there is no simple answer.

I'm asking this question specifically about American Express cards. I have other cards.

The best one is what you mentioned. Blue Cash. Make sure to search for a nice Sign-Up Bonus, or referral link for a good SUB from a relative/friend/(random internet person from Redit?), as mentioned earlier in the thread.

Amex Platinum will get back the fee if you pay for it, even better if you have a 401K that will cover the cost.

I looked at the platinum card and I can't see that it offers any benefits that would benefit me.

Based on how you described your spending habits I think the Blue Cash Everyday makes the most sense for you if you're limiting your search to only Amex cards. No annual fee, 3% back on groceries and online purchases and you get access to Amex offers. We actually built a rewards calculator where you can fill in how much you would spend per month in the different rewards categories and it will calculate if you earn back more in rewards than what the annual fee is. There are four Amex cards in there to compare in case you want to check it out https://money.slickdeals.net/credit-card-rewards-calculator/
