This is definitely an awesome deal. At the time, I was waiting forever for a sale, and I purchased each at 50% which was $19.99? And a sale never came except once in a blue moon (like once in 10 years!). At $14.99 for both, and $1.99 iOS (currently on sale too), link them and u will have multiplatform. Buy content once and have access to all the platform accounts that is linked.
That is not possible with the Java edition. You can do PC-to-PC play with Java, but no iOS, Android, or xbox.

They had to make a new version because the java edition is too open and can't be controlled. All my kids play the java edition because running my own server and doing it on Linux is essential.

Microsoft likes to take peoples money and then essentially steal from them by locking them out of the game they bought. Had to jump through hoops and contact M$ support to unlock the new accounts.
