As a preface, I have ONLY experienced this game on the Switch. I have a 5 & 6 year old who love playing it. They only play in Creative mode so that means they can't die and they get as much materials as they want to build and it plays great for them (think unlimited Legos). There are people that have played this game on other devices (stronger consoles, gaming PC's, etc) and say it feels subpar in comparison, but I don't think kids will care at all. The reviews for it on Amazon are great, and it's nice to have a game that encourages creativity. There is a bit of a learning curve on the controls, so I encourage you to look at YouTube tutorials or something to get a decent grasp. Kids will learn how to work it quickly once they get the basics down.

Warning to all that the switch has a limit of 2GB per game per profile. My son is constantly getting messages that there is insufficient storage despite 100GB free on my SD card. This applies to all games on switch, but Minecraft is the only one I've seen hit the limit.

Deluxe version is $5 more on humble and Nintendo but it's digital. Humble would result in $2 in gold coins.

My 6yo is really enjoying this on the switch. Like the others have said, kids won't care much about "graphics or quality" 😂 the game has been pretty smooth on the Switch.

We tried 2 person mode but the screen in split mode is a bit annoying, so I bought the iPad version a few days ago for $2 hoping to play with him together, iPad + switch (I have not tried not sure if that will work but hopefully cross play is possible).

Thanks for the post! I was able to price match a purchase from a week ago. My 6-yo absolutely loves creative mode, especially with all the mario-themed stuff.

Is this good on Switch? How's it play?
It's…mixed. When you're first playing a world it's largely done. But my kids have now created huge worlds (like 100 hours) and once you start to get really expansive, it slows down significantly.

Split screen is similarly rough. We tried four player split on a big world once and it just crashed the game. Now, we just do cross device multiplayer (one kid on a switch, one on an iPad).

You can also adjust visual settings to lower how far you can see, "fancy graphics" lighting and more which helps. But still chuggy.

TL;DR

It's fun and the kids largely don't care about the performance. But it is indeed rough when worlds get large.

Is there any different from switch versus IPad version ? I paid $6.99 x 2 iPads for my kids. If the Switch any better, it's probably better for their eyes
