FYI I have this same one from Amazon 5 years ago and the aluminum border on backboard is nice with no rust, but the rest of black support frame is plain powder coated steel and rusting through heavily by 3rd year. Maybe one more year before the support arms on base snap off. Height crank stopped working because of rust. Honestly I feel it's a design misstep for Spalding. The 4 arms are pretty thin and attach horizontally to plastic base so rain pools on them and prematurely rusts out the supports and then game over. I tried spraying marine protection paint on the bolts and arms, but alas, the rust has gone too far.

TLDR: front aluminum backboard good, but rest of steel frame rusts out within 5 years left outdoors.

If I did it all over again, before frame assembly I would spray 2-part clearcoat on all frame pieces and let dry before assembly. USC SprayMax 2K is a great one, super hard coating that doesn't scratch easy, totally will protect the paint and metal from rusting out. Probably need 2 cans to complete, about $40.

Or if you want quick and less effective, after full assembly use a marine grade rust inhibitor spray on all bolts and parts that might get touched by water, especially the 4 that mount to base. Google up "marine anti rust protection spray." That will slow down active rust too. Boat owners use this stuff a lot. Warning though, this stuff is super sticky and will not come off clothes or fingers easy. Gotta let it fully dry. It also has a yellowish tint, so do not spray on the glass board or aluminum.

I just got this same goal for my son at Walmart for 250.00 It is a Spalding. It looks exactly like this one except that plastic piece at the bottom is not straight up but slanted at an angle.

The one you have is a polycarbonate backboard, the one in this post is a glass backboard. The difference is night and day when the ball hits the backboard. The one you have is still great for most people but for those that are looking for a rebounding experience similar to something like in collegiate or pro settings then this is pretty much it.

I bought this hoop last year and when I was looking around for deals, I remember Spalding, Walmart, Dick's Sporting Goods all had this hoop at about $1,300+. Incredible deal if anyone can find one in stock.

Was able to snag one in OH. Plan to drag it in the barn during the winter. Seems like a legit hoop.

Costco also has an in-ground one [costco.com] on sale too. The in-ground one is $100 cheaper and is 60" in size. Is that even a better deal?

It's a great deal if you can mount it yourself maybe (possibly even if not, if you have already factored in installation cost regardless)? I expect legit installation costs a bit too

Just for a data point since it has nothing to do with this deal, dicks charges $400 for in ground install. They have run specials with free installation with purchase but very infrequently.

Nice, good data point.

I suppose if you want in ground anyways, that's probably a solid $400 across the board, so the in ground is a good deal too
