I have both. The REI one has a stiffer outer nylon and feels rougher on the body. It's also noticeably puffier than the Patagonia down sweater. The down sweater packs into its pocket and the rei does not. I can't comment as to fit, as I wear different sizes in them (M tall in rei, L in Patagonia). The Patagonia is what I wear when I backpack because it squishes smaller. The REI is what I wear daily since I don't need to worry about weight and packability and thorns and buildings beat hell out of my outer layer. Both are too warm for high intensity exercise above 20 degrees fahrenheit.

I got a REI 650 down vest last year on clearance for less than $25. It's possible prices may go lower if you don't need it right away.

Yeah, great pricing, both my kids are overdue. Hooray for the off season.

Don't forget free shipping and a 1-year return policy for members. I haven't set foot in a store in almost 15 years, but still a member for the bonuses.

Does Patagonia have a 650 fill down jacket?

I wouldn't worry much about who makes it. I think Patagonia and higher level companies will use YKK zippers, how much that's worth is up to you.

Fill is the most important thing, you can absolutely feel an 800 fill vs something cheaper like this. Not really relevant unless you are packing it. Most people aren't.

I personally prefer the mountain hardware or Patagonia average cut, it's a bit slimmer. REI is like my cheapo eddie bauer down jacket, a bit puffy. Up to you to decide.

I picked up this jacket for $80ish around the end of the year. First puffer jacket, now I get why you see so many folks wearing them. Great for an April trip to europe

Can you even get a Patagonia down jacket for $64.49 brand new? It literally costs 4 times the deal price of REI.
If you want Patagonia, then just get Patagonia, pls don't troll other deal items.

Woa, what's with the hostility?

I owned multiple Pantagonia jackets, some filled with down and some not.

But I am also considering getting one of these for those times that I wouldn't have to worry about ripping or dirtying an expensive jacket.

People buy things for different needs.

Thanks, I'll stick with my old Cabela's 650. It works well enough and on the cold sits with my wool sweeter and Primaloft pullover. It all gets used rotated around for different needs. Vests are great for arm flexibility when layering.

I don't own the REI down jacket, however I have felt it and tried it on for a short wear time. The Patagonia is quite a bit better quality. The REI jacket is good. The Patagonia is exceptional. REI has a one year warranty which is weak for outdoor clothing. Patagonia will take care of any issue you have for life.

dont own an rei one but my patagonia down jacket had multiple sections split open within 2 months and i used their included sticker pack to close em up. people at the store told me if it gets bad they will replace that section's down and restitch.

Ignore the other guy. This is a legitimate question as a point of reference. Patagonia down jackets are everywhere and we know of their quality, while the REI jacket is unknown to many. So the question is how does it compared in terms of quality so that we can make the determination if it's worth it to buy the REI or splurge a bit more and get Patagonia.

love the REI 850, not the 650 very much. The 650 vest was very disappointing.
