The bend in the handle is the natural curve of the palm. The handle is a vent as well to keep the oil from chugging. The bend up near the tip makes oil have to gently pour past a "dam" rather than come pouring quickly. This makes it easy to control pouring, and it means you can put it almost completely sideways and it will still pour at a slow rate. Even the spout offset is considered to make it able to get close to a pan before it starts pouring.
So, yeah, super practical to be this shape. If you tried to design an ideal pouring caraffe out of a monolithic piece, this is one shape that would fequently come up. If you used this, and then poured from a simple bottle, you'd see that this is a far better design.

Looks like it'll be hell to clean but I guess since it'll only be used for evoo, won't need cleaning much. Never used one so don't know though.

I own 2 of these. They work well enough. I think I paid a couple dollars more for my 2 pack whenever I did buy it. Ones smaller then the other
