Can I pair this with some sort of Bluetooth controller to skip running wire through the ceiling?

No, and if you could they would need some power source anyway

You'd still need an amplifier, and a power source for the BT module and amp. So "technically", it's possible, but no.

As others mentioned, these are passive speakers which needs external amplification. What you need are active speakers, I am not sure if I have seen in ceiling or in wall active speakers but who knows, I was not really looking.

FYI, $99 price is for each speaker, not both/two

Anybody try these or something similar in their ceiling rather than in the wall?

I have these running horizontally to replace some smaller inwalls that were in the dining Room. They were a perfect fit in between the studs. And the grilles are super thin that produces a very clean look.

Looks like you can. Manual states "IN-WALL SPEAKER PLACEMENT Designed to function in any standard wall, ceiling or drop ceiling, Klipsch in-wall speakers are engineered for years of performance"
