Any word on a dehumidifier mode? Also does this have two stage cooling or is that on higher end models? Is this missing anything else critical?

Edit: silly me it says it right in the description

Included wireless remote digital controller allows the users easily select among the 4 operating modes; cooling, heating, dehumidification and ventilation

I've had my eye on this 18,000btu pioneer model at a similar price but better efficiency: 🤔

So are these easy to install without a professional? I was trying to find a good youtube video. I have a basement without air/heat and I think I need one of these in each room. I was quoted $10k to install mini splits in 5 rooms. It looks like there are different mini split version...some require a professional to do the refrigerant? Also does this mean I will have 5 unit things sitting outside the house. Maybe their unit is better and does 5 inside and 1 outside? I don't know. It's confusing lol.

Pioneer support team responded to the same question in the FAQ:
Quote :
A: Hello! They can be DIY installed with proper preparation. The outside unit is factory pre-charged and the line sets are pre-flared to make it simple. It would be a medium-advanced project. The only part needing any specific knowledge is vacuuming the lines using a pump and pressure gauge prior to releasing the refrigerant into the lines, a step which can be bypassed using our easy to use Kwik-E-Vac line set flushing tool which skips that process.
So importantly, it sounds like its set up for DIY and it doesnt disqualify the warranty. Some units like Mr Cool are easier and come with precharged line sets (the coolant lines between the outside unit and the inside unit(s)) so no vacuuming of the line sets is required. Also, if you need longer linesets you will need more refrigerant with this model.

If you go with one head per cooling unit, yes you would have 5 heads (indoor units) and 5 outdoor units.

They may have quoted you for a single larger outdoor unit with 5 heads. Having multiple heads does mean that if one needs to run, the others have to run at a minimal speed too - so you may get some heating / cooling in rooms that don't need it.

Anyone feel free to comment on this where I got something wrong.

Here is a video from the diy hvac guy on a cheap $600 unit: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zTNJHO_nZCQ

He uses some super sexy automatic flare maker for cutting the air conditioning line. My popular $36 from amazon would do the trick only take a couple of minutes longer. You can pay up $150 dollars for manual/ drill flare connectors that are even more goof proof. There are several more videos that talk about issues no one tells you about. You will need a vacuum pump to purge the air out of the line and a gauge set to see if your vacuum holds. If you have done some work on the house or cars and are patient you will be fine. See what the neighbors did to the a/c unit next door to the one he did: the scrunched the ac line when trying to repaint the underlying boards. Youtube has several videos outlying some of the issues you will deal with. Good luck.

I am looking at it also. One vendor says on the plus side you gain cost efficiency and more silence with a higher seer unit. He also suggested that the parts are higher for a higher seer unit.

It's not easy but if you are motivated to learn and are ok with mistakes along the way. You need to maybe get permit for new electric disconnect box and run from panel, depending on code in your area. Drill through house, wood vs concrete. 5 of these will come with 5 outdoor units. These are 24k, very unlikely you will need 5 of these, maybe 9k units. The diy units will come pre-charged quick connect lines like Mr Cool. These pioneer will need vacuum pump. First time installing these, give yourself a few days to complete from start to finish.
10k quote for 5 rooms is great. Depends on the brand and warranty. I doubt you'll get Fujitsu or Mitsubishi for that price.
There are units that come with 1 outdoor and max 5-6 indoor units. Can be purchased around 4-5k. If your warranty with installer comes with 5 years or more, I would have it installed by pros.
Good luck

Im new to mini splits i need 2 zones, is there any reason not to buy 2 single units instead of a 2 zone unit.
The 2 zone units seem way more expensive.

Unless you are tight on space, I think it's easier to replace a unit if going with 1-zone. It's cheaper to buy those.

I like the specs of those. Unfortunately, I need a 24000BTU and it is not cheap.

1750 for the 24k energy star .. conveniently 250 more than it sold for two years ago according to Amazon...I think I am going to go with the energy star 24k unit myself, should pay itself off in energy savings in a couple years.

Furnishing a Garage, split between this or a good old window unit.

Like the simplicity of window unit and easiness of swapping it in/out. And it takes less space (no outside unit)
But this is much more good looking.

any suggestions?

Depends on your window...casement, hung, sliding...
