overpriced at $1.97 for this amount

Actually, $1.97 for this particular roll is a very good price (definitely not "overpriced" for individual rolls of this product)! This sells normally for $5-7, depending upon the source. These can be purchased in larger quantities at much lower prices, but not individually.
Dollar Tree sells the 2" wide version for $1.25. It's possible that these have both been discontinued at the retail level (considering the drastic price drops). Either that or there's just too much inventory around for these products.

Correct....but it's a sale price. It normally costs much more at Walmart!

I'm gonna disagree that less than $2 is "overpriced for this amount." One can only imagine how much the hospital you work at would charge for the same amount. Also, besides, I always say if you're going to claim a Popular or FP deal isn't good then you need to provide a link to a better deal.

Finally - how's this for a good price? I signed up for Sub & Save and somehow it came out to Free:

It's showing up as a Discount (ie, "Sale") and not a Credit. So, I think Amazon must've fuqed up somewhere, but I really don't know.

Just curious?....what motivated you to choose S&S for this item? It's the same price as a single purchase. How it ended up being free is a mystery!
I suppose that you could always cancel the subscription (as it'll likely cost far more next time around). Either that, or it'll disappear altogether.
I'd laugh if the hospital this person works in is paying $10 a roll for this stuff....as it's not unusual for hospitals to be ripped off by their suppliers.

I don't need it right away and Sub and Save does off a 10 cent discount… the discount appears in my post.

Ripoff. Self-adherent wraps sell for less than $1 a roll. Paying more than double for same thing because of a brand name.
