Because Windows 11 is garbage and has ton of trash, hence the heaviness
Asus TUF gaming laptops are comparable in regular price but much lighter.

Why not just get Asus, you ask? Well yeah but just saying if Dell could just bring down the weight a little, not even as much as Asus, then deals like this would be a steal. And even if not this low in price, there are other benefits to buying Dell (credit card offers, etc) that aren't really available for Asus and Acer.

This laptop or a dedicated PC? My 12 yrs old is into gaming and I don't see him lugging the laptop around. The only reason I'm looking at this because of price point vs $850 for a tower. Appreciate it you can give some feedback. Thanks

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

I have an older model G15, but to comment on the weight discussion- I'd rather have the thing have some heft for heat dissipation. I am hoping some of the weight is because of heatsinks. Sure, I still crank the fans, but I enjoy being able to take my gaming machine with me when I travel. If I spend a week at a work conference, I can go back to my hotel room and fire up anything in my steam library. I wouldn't suggest this if you need to take it everywhere with you though, nor would I count on battery usage. If you aren't plugged in, performance takes a dive and you probably won't last an hour. For my usage, I'd happily get a G15 or G16 as my next machine, but I'd probably try to find a rtx xx60 or xx70 class GPU.

Ignoring the weight aspect, is this a good gaming laptop for a teenager?

It is a bare minimum to play modern games. Should run all games fine at lower settings.
As a non gaming laptop. should be very fast.
