wow. can someone chime in on refurbs from MicroCenter? who refurbishes them? anyone had good/bad experience buying refurb'd from Microcenter? is this still a good machine to buy for this price in 2024?

My refub had a small scratch on the lid and the ssd had 85gb writes. Battery cycle was 4.

I guess depending on the failure they replace the failed part and then the battery as well.

This is Apple refurbished and comes with 1 year manufacturer warranty.

Considering this is a factory refurbished unit and not a third party return makes it a lot more enticing. That's a well spec'ed machine even if it is older. I just grabbed a very similar machine, except 14" 2TB and new, for not much less.

I am not intimately familiar with Macbook versions, but this seems like a reasonable price for a high-spec configuration. You'd be paying a big premium even for a Windows laptop with those specs.

Considering how much of a let down the m2 was, I'd snatch this M1 all day long first.

I got the 64gb, 1tb variance of this from MC for $1700. Threw in a flush sd I bought on Amazon and a 1tb micro SD. Also, called apple for the 1 year warranty and extended it to 3. Best laptop I ever owned.

I got a refurb one from Microcenter (m1 max 32gb 1tb variety), everything was great out of the box. A couple weeks later there was a crack on the right side of the screen, and I was within the microcenter warranty so they replaced it, took about a week. After that incident we added Apple Care to the laptop. Overall experience was positive!

Apple refurbished. Mine came in brand new visually and it was an open box refurb lol. Had 13 battery cycles on it and the drive had 8tb write cycle… what matters is it's working well and it does. Local LLM flies! (Quantized obviously)

Back in December, I bought a 16.2" M1 Pro with 16GB/512GB for $1299, and it looked brand new with 1 cycle on the battery. I think I had to call Apple to get them to update the warranty period to 1 year instead of the 30 or 90 days that comes standard.

Overall, I've loved it. Works great for my needs. Would buy another refurb MacBook from Microcenter.
