This tablet actually works perfectly with Linux. The only issue is that auto rotate isn't working yet.

I'm glad something like this exists, even if I don't personally buy it. $200 to upgrade the RAM is awfully steep.

Two completely different devices, targetting different audience. Otherwise, people would have been buying gaming laptops instead of high end productivity laptops because gaming laptops are cheaper than those.

Not sure if it would be better choice than new ones with Qualcomm cpu if the use case is close to tablet like..

Agreed. If performance is even close to comparable, that new qualcomm-powered MS surface tablet is going to be a great deal, especially with its claimed battery life!

A) i dont think a laptop thats 3.6lbs is the same category as a 2lb tablet?
B) cheapest G14 (which i agree is way more powerful) is $1600 so... price isn't even comparable?

so by your standards, thats like convincing someone to get a 16" gaming laptop than a g14 because its cheaper for higher performance. why recommend a G14 when you can get other gaming laptops that weigh 6+lbs and can fit a 4090 for the same price? heck if you're getting a 16" laptop why not just spend less and get a desktop, laptop prices are too steep!!
G14 with 4060 regularly sells for $900-$1000.

Looks like they lowered the price by $70 from last deal post, but also took away the free pen and sleeve.
At least not the keyboard?

i have never seen a G14 4060 sell for $1000, let alone $900... so how can it be "regularly". previous front page deals have been between $1100-1200, which means its about 30-35% more expensive, and still doesn't solve the fact that its a 3.6lb laptop and not a 2lb tablet, meaning its 55% heavier as well.

if you want a good gaming laptop, i agree the G14 is a great laptop and would run laps around this tablet. that and the legion x13 if it ever goes on sale, but its apples and oranges different to this device.

This is more of a competitor to a Surface Pro than a Dell XPS, right?

Is hard drive and/or battery user replaceable ?

One thing I hated about having a Surface is that the battery went it was not for the layperson to replace

Serious questions, I am not familiar with Minisforum.

ipad pro killer?
Depends on what you want. The iPad Pro has:
  • A significant portability advantage (367g lighter)
  • A much better screen (1000 nit SDR/1600 nit HDR dual layer OLED with higher PPI and much higher contrast)
  • Cooler, more efficient CPU
  • No noisy fans
  • 2 more hours of battery life
  • An OS better suited for touch usage
  • Ability to walk into an Apple Store to get repairs (no fussy RMA process)

On the other hand, if running Windows software in particular or hackability are important to you, this is obviously going to be way better, even if it's not as nice as the iPad in some ways.

I would say that the two are different enough that it wouldn't be crazy to own both… one doesn't really replace the other. For instance I could see keeping one of these for use around the house with an iPad being the device that goes out with me on excursions.

Nice. A competitor to that overpriced Asus one.

Yes, you are correct. XPS Tab uses Core U series Processors, maximum i7-1255U which, both in CPU and GPU department, as well as in efficiency, far slowr than Ryzen 7-8840U. On top of that, Dell may use a slightly higher resolution 2880x1800 display but that is just 60Hz vs 165Hz on this and just ccovers sRGB olor gamut vs 100% DCI-P3 on this.

Both SSD and battery are replacable but disassembling a tablet is much complex than doing it for a laptop and unless you've skills on that, better to do that by a technician or someone who knows.

The reviews are pretty solids too. In fact, every reviewers praised it performance, quality, Software and performance Control software, for a 1st ever tablet for any brand. Also, the added beneefit is that you can use that as an external monitor to any computers, and even the touch works too.
There are software solutions to use any iOS or Android tablet as external monitors, such as duet.

It already is Linux friendly. It can even run Steam OS natively. Take a look:

I like minisforum but that was a terrible timing to launch this at this price.

The surface 9 with the snapdragon will be better. The ipad pro is better.

They had to reduce the price to $899 overnight because of the surface,

Product is sadly DOA and its actually a good product. Next version with a different soc (strix , lunar lake or snapdragon) will be better suited for the market
