I've had this setup for several years and I use the app as a useful tool.
I bought it for several reasons - I have a two-stage furnace and it accommodates that feature.
The placement of the thermostat wire in the house was not an optimal location for temperature control, so the remote can be placed for best control.
It's very simple to adjust - manually or via app.
The display is simple and attractive.
You can use as many of the various features, or just as a simple thermostat.
I could hardly imagine a simpler installation with the included instructions.

There's also no auto fan setting.
It sucks IMO. Many HVAC Technicians (I have a friend who works in HVAC) told me that the Nest sucks and a pain for them to fix.

I've had this Nest thermostat at our current home for just over 5 years with no issues. Getting ready to move into a new home and seeing this deal is making we wonder if I should get it... why does the Nest make it a pain for HVAC techs to fix?

Go with ecobee. It's hands down a better product if you need to equalize the temperature in different rooms and are okay with not being in the Google nest product universe.
