If you're using TorGuard VPN, the Mumbai server will not work (apparently Microsoft knows their IP addresses). You'll get the "purchased in a different region from your account" error. However, the Bangalore server works perfectly.
Some other VPNs may also have the same issue. The "purchased in a different region from your account" error typically means you should try connecting to a different city in India or try using a different VPN. It does not mean that you should change your XBox account's region from the US to India, this is never required.

And what zip code does everyone use?
Anybody know what happens if you top off PAST three years? Will it not accept the last code? I'm 2 months from a full 3 years but this deal adds 80-ish days so it would go past three years and I didn't wanna risk it. Anybody know?

It appears that if your account was created in the US then it only lets you redeem codes purchased for the US. Guess I'll just holf onto the code untl December and hopefully it'll still work and I'll create a new account to get those 4 months.
EDIT: my apologies. I was very incorrect.
My Mozilla VPN has no India VPN service, so I used that free VPN recommendation, by downloading the Windows application and then turning it on, and then opening a Chrome incognito window and then visiting the microsoft website to redeem the code.
My GamePass ultimate was fixing to expire tomorrow, so this gives me service almost to Thanksgiving. So, if they do put CoD on GamePass, I will be able to try it out for a little bit, or just knockout the campaign.
