If you're using TorGuard VPN, the Mumbai server will not work (apparently Microsoft knows their IP addresses). You'll get the "purchased in a different region from your account" error. However, the Bangalore server works perfectly.
Some other VPNs may also have the same issue. The "purchased in a different region from your account" error typically means you should try connecting to a different city in India or try using a different VPN. It does not mean that you should change your XBox account's region from the US to India, this is never required.

My Ultimate sub expires June 9th. Is it better to let it expire, then buy 6 - 6mth Core and then add the Ultimate later to full upgrade 3years of Core to Ultimate? (This is what Ive done last 6years or so.)
Or just buy enough to cover the core to ultimate conversion. From what I read its 80 days, so for a full 3 years I'd need 13 codes?
This that right? Whats the best way to max this to 3 years if im expiring in 1 week?

UPDATE: NEVER MIND, FORGOT I NEEDED TO ACTIVATE A ONE MONTH ULTIMATE CODE FIRST.

1. Sigh up for $1 XGPU free trial (w/ recurring renewal after 2 weeks)
2. Go to MS Account and Turn off recurring subscription to avoid getting charged more than the ~$1
3. Ensure you have Xbox App + dependencies installed and registered with MS Account. You need MS Account registration + MS Store to enable the PC features, and being able to install games on PC. Once all is good, you will see a little 'Ultimate' banner under your Profile name in Xbox App. Confirm by trying to install one of the available PC Games.
4. Follow OP's instructions from here on out.
This worked flawless! I now have XGPU subscription until 6/21/2026!
Total cost: $103.31 (including taxes + fess)
$4.30 / mo.
