If you're using TorGuard VPN, the Mumbai server will not work (apparently Microsoft knows their IP addresses). You'll get the "purchased in a different region from your account" error. However, the Bangalore server works perfectly.
Some other VPNs may also have the same issue. The "purchased in a different region from your account" error typically means you should try connecting to a different city in India or try using a different VPN. It does not mean that you should change your XBox account's region from the US to India, this is never required.

2. If wanting to convert to Ultimate, buy (1) 1-Month code (I did India as well just so I can do it all at once but this one should work on US, or directly through Microsoft though that's more expensive.
3. Turn on VPN
4. Redeem the 6 codes. Stop here if you just want the 3 years of core
5. If wanting ultimate, redeem the 1 month code. You'll now have 25 months of ultimate. Don't bother with topping up to three years since the conversion isn't as good now that you have ultimate. Future you can hope this deal is still a thing then.
My Ultimate sub expires June 9th. Is it better to let it expire, then buy 6 - 6mth Core and then add the Ultimate later to full upgrade 3years of Core to Ultimate? (This is what Ive done last 6years or so.)
Or just buy enough to cover the core to ultimate conversion. From what I read its 80 days, so for a full 3 years I'd need 13 codes?
This that right? Whats the best way to max this to 3 years if im expiring in 1 week?
Buy a bunch of 6 month core subscriptions right now, and convert at a 3:1 ratio. So 6 months of core = 2 months game pass ultimate.
Wait until June 9th and then buy 6 month core subscriptions, and convert them at 3:2 ratio. You'd also have to buy a month of GPU to set off that conversion.
You're rolling the dice if you wait for another two weeks, and incurring another $10 or so in having to purchase the 1 month of GPU.
Personally, I love to take my chances. That's just me. But I waited the last six months â much to the chagrin of my GPU loving kids â to get the perfect deal.

thank you for the detail explanation btw đģ
Assuming you want as close to 3 years as possible, you buy 9x 6 months pass at $11~12 a piece. Then you buy a single GPU 1 month at $11.
You go to MS Store with VPN to India, and redeem 6x Core, that will give you the full 3 years, but that's just core. You then redeem the 1 month GPU, which will convert your core to 2/3 GPU, which works out to be 25 months of GPU. At which point, you can redeem the other 3 core, which will only have a conversion rate of 81 days per 6 months. However, considering you only paid $12, that comes out to about $4.4 a month. If you redeem all three, this will bring you to March 2027, and you don't have to worry about game pass for a long ass time.
My total after everything is $3.4 a month for GPU/PC gamepass for 33.6 months. It's insane even with the 81 days conversation rate for the last 3. Go for it!

Not bad at all for a first time XGPU user...
wait i thought conversion rate was much better than that. that's less than 50%. it changed?
Edit: But at $11 for this particular deal, I guess that is still a great deal. it is something near $4 a month (i have been paying 5-6 a month at most for ugp since it's exception so thats my standard, rip $1 trick). still, doesnt bode well for my future deals if true.
anyways my ultimate gamepass doesnt expire until august, and i guess all deals require you to let it expire first.

Otherwise, I guess I'm out the $11 or whatever.
