From LA it gets down to Oceanside only. Any way to get free service from there to San Diego?

Same. The thumbnail is fairly deceptive.

Lots of lunatics on the metro (and needless to say, the buses), keep your eyes peeled and stay safe

There are a few transfers you can do from Oceanside, but none of them go to downtown for free (if that's the direction you're looking to go). I was looking into this last weekend and the Coaster seems to be the cheapest option from Oceanside.

You know that Metrolink isn't the subway or a bus, right?

Again, this is a story about a metro subway, specifically the red line that goes from NoHo to Union Station.
The MetroLINK is an above-ground train that shares the track with Amtrak. You can take it as far down as Oceanside. I'd post links to clarify the differences between the services but it doesn't seem like people read the actual articles, just the sensationalized headlines…

I was going to take this to Santa Clarita, but the 757 bus was much cheaper.

A lot of you really don't know the difference between the LA Metro and the Metrolink apparently.

It won't be free but it'll be cheap. You can take the Coaster into DT San Diego (or Old Town, or Solana Beach)
