Not the best choice for a KVM switch because it does NOT have EDID emulation.

In other words, it will reformat the screen (and rearrange windows) and possibly also trigger sleep mode on the laptop/desktop that you switch away from. Also, on switching back to the said laptop/desktop, it will take long(er) time to get the display back on the monitor because your laptop/desktop will believe a new monitor is being attached to it. It happened to me many times with my Mac-based units attached to these types of non-EDID emulation KVM switches. It's incredibly annoying.

For any serious work, where you frequently switch between units, you'll want a KVM switch with EDID emulation.
Too those of you wondering if this is a good switch or not, I have it and its amazing. Its actually my daily driver. I use it for my work laptop and my gaming PC and it works amazing! It's super fast at switching over (about 2-3 secs, top). I went through like 4 or 5 different KVM switches on Amazon that all ranged from like $30 to like $140. None of them worked. I eventually saw Anker was coming out with this and I have a little love for Anker products so I said why not. I did get mine for the full price (my company gave me a slight reimbursement on it due to the ergonomics and me being a remote worker and working from home and it qualified as a needed necessity) so I ended up only paying about $150 out of pocket. But it works and works WAY better than any of those other KVM switches that I had. So I highly recommend it!

If anyone else have any questions about it, I am willing to answer if I can. At this price, I highly recommend it!
I've never seen a KVM that had ethernet for the end devices. I don't even know why you'd want the KVM switch to also be a network switch...

I read some reviews on Amazon but couldn't find an answer to this question - How fast does it switch from one device to the other?

My problem with these KVM's is that they seldom switch from one device to the other in less than a couple of seconds, which is long enough to break my flow. Really looking for a good reliable KVM that switches in under a half second.

The lack of ethernet is a deal killer for me. The price is a bit high IMHO for its capabilities.

Interesting. I didn't even realize that a switch like this existed. I've been trying to share 2-3 monitors with a regular KVM switch, and it's not working very well. this looks like it would work better. Seems like a good price historically. Will have to see what else is out there to compare it to, but might just get this one and try it.

Thanks, OP!

Huh, oddly, I just checked again, and now I see the sale price.

Anyway, ordered, and repped!

Sorry, what's the use case that you need switching that fast?

Also have you considered using software like Synergy to do software-based KVM if you need it to be instant?

I've used a few DisplayPort KVMs at my IT job and all of them take a while to switch. My understanding is that DisplayPort is disconnected from the device and then it "Connects" to the new device when you switch. Meaning the computer has to detect the display and re-connect it every time you switch. This also means that the old device loses its monitor when you switch away, which some programs hate.

HDMI seems to have the same issue, but in my anecdotal experience it handles the connects and disconnects slightly more gracefully than DP.

If anyone knows of literally any DisplayPort KVM that switches fast I'd love to have a recommendation.
