My kids just asked about this game over the weekend. Thanks OP. I still feel like I may find it somewhere cheaper after I buy it. Oh well.

If your buying on console, I'm pretty sure this is the lowest the game has been. I'm guessing that you wouldn't be able to top this til the holiday season and even then, I'm guessing you still won't actually top it but rather get close at say $29.99. If your down with your kids playing this, id jump at this price if I were you. I did just notice it's for a digital copy rather than physical so maybe the chances are better than I thought but I'd still jump if I were you.

If they cannot wait it's good, normally I would wait for EOL (end of life) when it's $30 for premium edition or ultimate. That will be a year or two. They will ask u for DLC which will advertise itself. Standard edition is a form of advertising that gives you a gimped version of it, missing essential characters. If the kids ask, why not let them enjoy last gen like MK 11 ultimate when that goes for $5 on sale?

Kids go for the latest fad but 1. You will save $$$ 2. Teach them to control their desire. A lot of benefit to putting yourself at the right time of a games cycle. You will own them but not at expense of impulse purchase.

We are in a testing phase where companies are holding out longer. Tekken 8, SF6, WWE 2KXX, KOF, Shodown.. all are either not offering complete editions, throwing non-standard terminology to confuse customers (rebuy, no prorate from deluxe edition to ultimate or premium), or simply keeping the price up longer. I use to have a $30 but it's now *maybe* $40, to be reasonable. They argue the cost of development and their corporate behavior has been raising the cost and not lowering it for longer duration. I'm fighting back by reading books, which actually is very beneficial staying away from games. But when the full edition is at $30-$40, I'll bite. Ideally, they seem to logarithmically reach $10-$20 but that when the game is considered so old so looking at 4-5 years.

If they're going to play online the community will have dwindled down to only the most experienced by the time it's EoL.

If they're only going for the story, then yes, the ultimate version will very much be the way to go. This isn't a terrible deal though. I haven't been keeping up with it a ton since launch but are they releasing characters pretty regularly? I haven't seen much for MK1 but they were releasing them left and right for 11.

Used physical copies can be found on eBay for around the same price.
