"Premium" yet has ads? Someone explain this to me. Makes absolutely no sense to call something premium if it has ads. Maybe I'm just old.

Not trying to TC here, but I'll just throw this out there:

I have an email address that's pretty simple (first name, last initial) at a free email provider. I almost *never* give that out other than to "real people" in an attempt to keep it spam-free.

Unfortunately some people seem to think it's theirs or just get lazy and use it for free online signups.

One day, someone in Nebraska (Peacock told me where the device was signed in from) decides to use it to sign up for the free tier of Peacock. Not a huge deal as things like this have happened before (although it's annoying when companies do not require any sort of email verification.) I figure I'll just delete the account. (Use email to log in and then delete - simple enough.)

Unfortunately, Peacock isn't that simple.

If you ever want to delete your account (and the data associated with it) you literally have to submit an Individual Rights Request with NBCUniversal. Short version: it took an hour of my time and then perhaps a 2 or 3 week wait for it to be completed.

This probably isn't a huge deal to most, but if it is something you care about, just be aware before going in.

Good timing. My next renewal is the 5th, but I cancelled.

Code will be valid from now until June 30th, so if anyone is on the monthly plan right now, just cancel, wait for expiration, and then buy in.

I'm so surprised people are willing to put up with ads on content. I can't stand it, and will not go back. It waste so much of my time and I want to reduce how much influence media has over me.

They're converging/have converged with conventional broadcast TV.

The $20 is increasingly gravy. The economics are about "smart" advertising at this point based on your viewing habits.

It's the opposite of Costco - instead of profit from membership, goods at near cost, streaming profits from adverts, membership fee (like with free OTA (over the air) TV) doesn't matter.

Which is to say it's like calling shows on OTA "premium" — you're right; that word has lost its original meaning wrt streaming.

My subscription ran out 2 months ago so I wasn't already active with a plan. I navigated from the main sign up page and picked the premium plus ad free plan and then entered the code STREAMTHEDEAL and it dropped the price to 79.99 + tax for the year at the initial signup.

There's a ton of important games that are on USA Network towards the end of the season which is extremely annoying. Luckily most of those games have a dual contract with Telemundo Deportes, so if you have a cheap 5 dollar antenna (or if your TV has one built in), you can watch it on the Spanish channel for free.
