The 8600G is significantly more powerful than a 5700G in gaming performance.

And something to keep in mind the 5700G is Vega graphics while the 8600G is the latest RDNA with even Ai cores in there. Vega is already being phased out and is only receiving security updates once every couple months and no longer getting feature updates.

Also 5700G Passmark
Multi core score is 24,577 and single core 3283

Where as 8600G Passmark
Multi core score is 25,351 and single core 3865

5700g GPU Passmark score is 2796
8600G GPU passmark score is 5933

8600G is AM5 only. the 5700G is AM4 only. It is not a replacement, the socket is physically different.

Be aware of the neutered PCIe situation. Only PCIe 4.0 and 16 usable lanes.
The sole reason to consider this is if you only intend to do gaming on the iGPU, otherwise there are better CPUs in the same price range such as the 13600kf, 12700k, 7600x, 7600.

Yawn, this is basically the same speed as the 3 year old Ryzen 7 5700G which is $165 and was $161 a few days ago.

I wonder why people have the need to spread complete nonsense without doing even an ounce of "research" (i.e. googling).

I have a TP01-2066 which came with the Ryzen 7 5700G....is the 8600G a drop in replacement? Would I need a bios update?

So barely an upgrade if you are using a discrete gpu? I guess single core is 20% or so faster but not enough of an upgrade for most I'd say.

Anyone who is buying this probably isn't using a discreet GPU. Processors like these have their use cases, if someone was going to use a discreet GPU there's better CPUs out there

This is the CPU for a GOAT mini emulation machine, not high end desktop gaming.

What kind of emulation can be expected? I've been holding off on an htpc/media system because I was eyeing something that might be able to handle ps3 emulation well enough.

The problem with these iGPUs is to get the sort of performance show in many benchmarks, you need pretty pricy RAM kits. If you just need 2D graphics, a regular 7xxx CPU will do fine. If you care about bang for buck, you are really better off on whatever modernish 6 core platform from the last 6 years with the best GPU you can afford if you want to game. For about the $200 you can get something like a 3600 with a B450 motherboard AND a discreet video card which will get you better gaming performance. If you're looking for fast single-core eSports performance, then look at a i3-12100 and H610 for a little more. One of those recent off lease $300 Dell i7-8700 boxes would be great, too, and even offer better gaming performance with there Quatro P2200.

These CPUs are about 5700X performance, which is a good bump up from 5700/G or even 5600X, but below the 7600X. They also have a nerfed number of PCIe lanes and no PCIe 5.0 support.
