My opinion from the previous thread:

At this price, this is the Edifier speaker to get. It's a repeat of the lowest ever price. Check out this YouTube channel with extensive sound comparisons between multiple Edifier speakers:

I think Edifier speakers are a great bargain (have the 1850s) but this model doesn't look like it has a subwoofer out?

You might not need a lot of bass so might not have the desire to add a sub, but a sub-out is nice to have.

I actually kind if prefer the 1280t to the 17s based on this review.

I bought the 1700bts and also paired with the sub. It's quite good for the price to performance ratio. HOWEVER! I would recommend you guys get a quality cable as opposed to the crappy aux/rca cables they come with. I thought my speakers were defective due to distortion and static when hooked up to my PC. Once I changed out the wires, CLEAR AND CLEAN SOUND. Not sure if anyone else had thiis issue.

I paid $130 for the 1700BTs last December. That's the speaker and price point to look out for.

Would it be sensible to grab these with the intention of adding a center channel later for home movie watching?

I wouldn't think so because these are powered speakers, meaning they are not intended to connect to an amplifier. Whereas, most center channel speakers are not powered and generally connect to a home theater. So you would have somewhat of a mismatch.

I bought these to add to our vacation rental. They are really nice speakers. They fill the main floor with sound when playing from a BT device.

I will also say that the BT connection is rock solid even 2 floors away.

I'm a bit perplexed by edifier, they've been selling these for a long time now, have they ever thought of "improving" on the existing design ?

Both of these are appealing. Not sure if I'd add a sub anytime soon, but nice to have that option.
