Purchased these in April when they went on sale last time, was looking for a while at sound bars or something. People spoke well of it and watched some youtube reviews and few complaints all seemed to be pleased with the product. So I got the white one to match my desk area for a computer set up. Sound is clear, high quality cables and feels like a value purchase. Sound remains clear even if the volumes increased, but i barely touch the dial it's plenty loud. I'm pretty sure I could shake the house if they were up all the way. For this price I am satisfied.

Any idea what the difference is between the two?
This R1700BT has bi-amp (4) outputs- 2x15W + 2x18W = 66W vs 2x21W in R1280DBs.

2 RCA inputs vs 2 RCA, Optical, Coax (digital) - all selectable via remote; plus Sub-out (sub-mini).

19mm "Eagle Eye" dome tweeter (said to be silk-dome) vs 13mm silk-dome

Unknown BT version vs "BT 5.0"

Processing: DSP and DRC (range control) vs Soundfield Spatializer (stereo separation by adding some opposing/common-mode cancellation).

The/My 1280's multiple inputs are handy for basic Dolby switching when selecting the many PC/Monitors/USB-box outputs. Use gold/contact-wipe sub-mini connector/cable to avoid intermittence scratch/pops for the sub-out.

The 1700 should be cleaner-sounding with bi-amplification and larger silk tweeter, but signal is messed with by the DSP/DRC - at best, response can be made flatter at the cost of some phase non-linearity, and some companding from DRC can avoid (bass) over-driven distortion while still hearing background voices.

Both have the mid driver made of paper dome, which is still around cuz it totally kills any resonant surface-wave distortion (even if other cone materials are stiffer).

Edit: R1700BT has BT 5.1 and Class-D amps (x4). per:

I have an Edifier pair that has an integrated DAC - I bypassed their DAC, assuming these speakers are the same otherwise, just missing the digital input.

They sound really good.

I know a different world, but how does sound compare between pair of home pods to edifier?

I bought some of these and wanted to come back to thank OP and leave a review if anyone comes back here in the future because they're wonderful computer speakers. I replaced a mediocre soundbar that I thought was pretty good, but these are crystal clear and just so nice for the price. If you listen to a lot of podcasts and audiobooks like me, these are the speakers to get. I haven't been this happy with any computer speaker since my old Klipsch 2.1's conked out from too many moves.

I don't have a good setup for a subwoofer, so I didn't want one, and I'm happy enough with the bass these have, but if you want thump definitely look elsewhere.
