If you're just going to use this during the summer it's probably fine. However, the Wawona 6 Footprint (custom tarp) is sold separately for this tent and is no longer made and people have complained about getting we in rainy weather and that it's hard to find a tarp that's the same weird shape. Also, their website goes on about new improvements so you might want to find out if this is the most recent decent and if it isn't what you're missing. Still for the price you're probably getting way more than you paid for.

It looks like you can still get the wawona 4 footprint [thenorthface.com]though.

There is a generic Wawona 6 tarp on eBay [ebay.com].

I have the wawona 6 tent and picked up this 7ft 4 in x 9 Ft 6 in tarp from Harbor freight. https://www.harborfreight.com/7-f...30872.html

The tent is a couple inches short of 8 x 10 and the main job of a ground cloth is to prevent damage to the bottom of a tent. This tarp covers all by about a 2 to 3 inch border at the edge of the tent, which is good as you don't want the ground cloth to stick out beyond the tent as then water will collect between the bottom of the tent and ground cloth.

I'm not an avid follower of camping gear, but in my opinion it is a travesty that some tents are not sold with the foot prints.

I guess it is national-wide sale cause I found multiple stores in Ohio have the discount and my friend at Boston confirmed the sale as well.
Where is the Boston location? I checked the list of premium outlets and MA (mass) isn't listed.

This and the ongoing Mountain Hardware sale are just bananas deals for tents.

If I hadn't bought 2 tents from MHW this week I'd definitely grab this.

I've always just folded a tarp to size for my Kelty tent and never had an issue. Annoying but you're not backpacking with this tent any time soon
Used to do that too, but when I did finally get a tent with a footprint I really REALLY liked it. Just because there is a work-around doesn't mean certain premium items (and especially premium priced items) shouldn't come with certain features.

Most large car camping tents have a thick enough floor. If you're careful about where you setup you should have no problem.
Yea but it's way easier to hang and hose off a footprint than the whole tent. I'd rather the floor of the actual tent stay relatively clean.

In my experience having a tarp larger than the tent itself just means that if it rains, the exposed part of the tarp collects water and actually GUIDES it under the tent, where it will sit and eventually work it's way into the tent. The tarp tends to be more waterproof than the freaking tent. When I camped this way, I usually folded the tarp so that very little of it was exposed.

I understand that there are inexpensive workarounds for not having a footprint, but having a properly sized footprint is unequivocally better IMO.

What's the target market of the StormBreak tents? They look sized for backpacking, but the weight is about 50% higher than I would expect for that purpose. At $30, it's probably still a good deal, but it seems like you'd either want less weight for backpacking or more space for car-camping.

Have the Wawona 6, excellent tent in my experience.

Called around the Washington DC area, they are all out of them in Hagerstown, Potomac Mills Williamsburg and Pottstown. So none available within 3 hours drive of Washington DC.

I got a 2p Coleman for $20 as a backup, similar situation. 5 pounds is light enough that a friend could bring it backpacking even though it wasn't ideal, it was better than nothing.

It's also a nice place to stow gear when car camping to keep it out of the rain or just keep it out of sight when away from the campsite.

It can also be used as a "changing room" if you're camping around a river or whatever where you've got a group that needs to change in/out frequently. Obviously not ideal compared to the changing room/shower tents, but it does the job.

There is a North Face outlet in Freeport, Maine.

I was there a week ago and they had a ton of tents and sleeping bags for super cheap. I already have plenty, so didn't pay much attention to the prices, but I did notice that they were ridiculously affordable. Not sure if they were cheaper than the prices listed here, but I wouldn't be surprised if they were.
