I've heard similar, but it seems to track to quality control issues that their earlier compressors suffered. I've had one of their units for about a year and a half now with good success, but that's a small window.

The problem is finding a fridge that is reliable. I did a lot of research last time out and the feedback wasn't great. The list to avoid was pretty long and included all the major brands (and when you consider how many of those brands are made by the same company it looks even worse).

Last time out, by the time I had factored in user reviews, consumer reports and some anecdotal feedback, I was left with Bosch and two other higher end units whose cost was much higher. I bit the bullet and tried the LG.
I bought a Whirlpool french door refrigerator freezer last year and I have had trouble with it already. So none of them are any good anymore. My old Whirlpool lasted 35 years.

How did you find the inventory near your stores ? i'm not able to lookup using google locator or lowes store availability
I didn't have to do anything fancy last night. I was at the Lowe's site browsing for one when I saw this and it was in stock. My Fridge was no longer cooling, so I bought the cheapest full size fridge I could buy. I was surprised it was marked down so low, but saw that i missed an even slicker deal for less than 700$ just a couple of days ago at Lowe's.

If it matters, I was browsing stores in North NJ.

Same here. I had a whirlpool bought when I was first married, made in the US, ran like a clock for over 25 years but ultimately three wild animal children broke all the interior plastic shelves. Replaced it with another Whirlpool that didn't last 5. Now I'm all about the bargain appliances.

I wasn't looking for a fancy refrigerator freezer when I bought this one but it was a price mistake at Lowe's so I jumped on it. $2,800 refrigerator for $1,200 and I didn't hesitate to get the extended warranty from Lowe's. These new ones are just junk. That's all they are is junk.

So we have the same style fridge right now. Its a GE. We had appliance person come out this week & look at it. The rails on the freezer are going bad. It catches at the very end when you close it. You can still close it but have to pay attention to what your doing (its easy not to close it completely then everything frosts over). Looks like our current one is about 15 years old & he said the don't make parts for it anymore. So anything that breaks can't be fixed. I asked him what brand to go with and he said they are all chinese junk now & it really doesn't matter just get whatever & get a good warranty. He said unless you want to buy a really high end $10,000+ unit don't count on it. I had a buddy who bought a Samsung fridge like maybe a year back & the compressor immediately went out. I guess i'm going to buy it with a 5 year extended warranty plan. I am a little bumbed it doesn't have an ice dispenser in the door.

I've had that experience with dehummidifers too. They last maybe 1-2 years before the compressors go bad & then you have to buy a new one. I've been though like 6.

Edit: Delivery was scheduled for tomorrow. I rescheduled delivery out a week so i have time to consider if i really want to move forward with this.

Have you looked for the parts yourself? I've had similar experiences, but it's generally pretty easy to find parts for "outdated" appliances! I've done it so many times...especially if you have your model number.

I see so many bad comments about Samsung and LG whenever a fridge deal is posted. What relatively affordable brand is solid then?
Agreed, everyone is saying how bad lg and Samsung fridges are... But no one has provided an affordable solid alternative 🙄

They all may be bad, I'm starting to conclude it could be a matter of picking the least unreliable.
From Consumer Reports member surveys: "we estimate that 34 percent of all refrigerators will require repairs by the end of the fifth year"
That's pretty darn bad for such a critical appliance!!

If samsung and lg are so bad why cant they hire smart people to fix the problems? Why year after year people keep saying their fridges suck? Is nothing being fixed?

Any brand of fridge with icemaker on the door like this will inevitably have problem within a few years. It's not limited to LG brand. Solution: Disable the icemaker and get a separate icemaker, or buy refrigerators with icemaker inside the freezer.

LG had issue with compressors a few years back and got sued for it. Their newer fridges are fine.

That said, awesome deal!
So is this deal the one that has been fixed? Any way to doubly confirm?

Nabbed one plus a 5 year warranty, delivery to 30 miles away from the Lowe's store, hauloff of old one, and taxes for $1161.

You sign up with Kudos. Install their browser extension and it will ask you to activate 5X boost. Then you just proceed and pay. You need to add discover it or other card which can have 5% back at Lowes. It also worked for me for using with other cash back websites. Kudos are pending for 60-90 days.

We've had our Whirlpool Gold fridge with icemaker on the door for 24 years now and the only issue we've ever had is the cold control went bad a few years ago and started freezing things in the fridge side.
